Ready to steer the financial direction of a fast-paced, high-performing mining contractor group? We're on the lookout for a strategic and hands-on Financial Controller to guide our finance team and deliver the insights that keep our wheels turning and our business growing.
In this critical guidance role, you'll be responsible for end-to-end financial management from compliance and reporting to budgeting, forecasting, and cashflow oversight, ensuring accurate, timely financial information drives operational decisions across the business.
You'll guide and provide team leadership to a small, efficient accounts team and work closely with leadership, operations and workshop managers to deliver financial strategies that support performance on the office and on our sites. Your ability to analyse trends, manage risks, and guide commercial decisions will help strengthen our financial health and fuel sustainable growth.

Key Areas of Responsibility
- Financial Leadership and Reporting: Proven ability to deliver timely, accurate financial reporting and data-driven insights across business entities.
- Budgeting, Forecasting and Financial Planning: Demonstrated ability to accurately prepare annual budgets and forecasts, drawing on historic operational data, forecasting methodologies and contractual obligations.
- Cashflow and Treasury Management: Strong capability in managing cashflow forecasts and making sound prioritisation and payment decisions to support operational and strategic needs.
- Commercial Acumen and Business Support: Demonstrated outstanding financial and business acumen, ensuring the business's ongoing financial health, sustainability and operational success.
- Business Partnering and Communication: Ability to communicate financial concepts effectively to non-financial stakeholders and support divisional leaders in achieving positive financial outcomes.
- Strategic Planning and Execution: Demonstrated experience in developing strategic and business plans and collaborating with senior management to develop and implement these.
- Regulatory Compliance and Audit Management: Proven ability to meet compliance obligations, coordinate external audits and maintain robust internal controls.
- Progressive Thinking and Continuous Improvement: History of driving reporting system improvements, process efficiencies and operational cost savings, with a progressive, forward-looking mindset, remaining updated on industry trends and developments, and providing recommendations for improvement and growth opportunities
- Tender and Contract Development: Proven skill in developing financial components of tender submissions and contract response documentation.
- Analytical and Decision-Making Skills: Strong ability to manage multiple competing tasks and priorities, solving complex operational and financial issues to enable effective decision-making.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Proven success in providing financial leadership and advice to the owners, general manager and operational leaders, supporting governance and strategic initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline. CPA or CA certification preferred, though not essential.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial management roles, ideally within the mining contractor or similar industries.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong leadership, mentoring and team management capabilities.
- Excellent budgeting, forecasting and financial modelling skills.
- Highly developed commercial acumen and strategic thinking abilities.
- Advanced proficiency in financial systems (e.g., Microsoft Excel and ideally MYOB or similar) and business intelligence tools.
- Strong technical knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards, taxation and regulatory frameworks.
- Highly effective communication skills with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
A base salary from $130,000 is on offer, though highly negotiable for a proven performer.
