Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated and creative Chef / Cook to join our kitchen team at Milkbar Docklands. You'll play a key role in preparing and executing dishes that align with our high standard for quality, presentation, and flavour, while helping maintain a kitchen environment that reflects our values of consistency, innovation, hospitality, and care.
Key Responsibilities:
* Prepare, cook, and plate menu items (breakfast, brunch, lunch) according to Milkbar recipes and presentation standards.
* Assist with menu development and daily specials, contributing ideas for new dishes or flavour combinations.
* Ensure all food leaving the kitchen meets high quality, taste, and presentation standards.
* Maintain cleanliness and organisation of kitchen, including workstations, storage, equipment, and tools.
* Monitor and manage food stock and inventory; reduce food waste and ensure efficient use of ingredients.
* Adhere to all health, safety, and hygiene regulations; ensure safe food handling.
* Work efficiently under pressure, especially during busy service times.
* Collaborate closely with front‑of‑house staff to ensure smooth and timely service.
* Assist in order preparation for grab‑and‑go items and take away as required.
* Support special functions or events (if applicable), which may include changing menu requirements or setup.
Qualifications & Skills:
* Previous cooking/chef experience in a café, diner, or similar hospitality environment.
* Strong knowledge of breakfast, brunch, and lunch‑style cooking.
* Excellent knife skills and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously while keeping attention to detail.
* Creative mindset with the ability to follow recipes and also contribute original ideas.
* Understanding of food safety, hygiene, and handling standards.
* Good time management and ability to work under pressure in a fast‑paced environment.
* Team player with solid communication skills.
* Flexibility to work early mornings, weekends, and possibly public holidays.
