Sous Chef / Senior Chef Position at Oceanfront Kiosk - Nest Kiosk – Kingston Park, SA
We are on the hunt for a Sous / Senior chef to join our team of experienced chefs at our busy oceanfront kiosk – Nest Kiosk, Kingston Park (just past Seacliff Beach, SA). We are open for all day breakfast and lunch 7 days a week (7am to 3pm) and during Summer will run 1-3 nights per week with beachside / casual dinner service, as well as sporadic evening private events. You will be part of a small, energetic, creative, passionate and supportive team at Nest Kiosk.

Job Type: Can commence as Casual, with a view to transition to Permanent, Full-Time (approx. 30-38 hours per week) if desired.
Salary: Competitive Salary and Bonus, in line with Restaurant Industry Award. Salary TBC - Dependent on applicant skills and experience. Guideline: Cook grade 4 (wage level 5) – in line with Restaurant Industry Award. Rate subject to increases on weekends and Public Holidays.
Hours: 25 hours minimum, up to 38 HOURS PER WEEK. These hours may increase during peak Spring and Summer seasons, busy holiday periods, and as we open for more dinner services.
Job Responsibilities
As Sous / Senior Chef you will assist the Head Chef to oversee the day-to-day running of the kitchen and help manage, lead, motivate and develop the kitchen team. You will also lead the kitchen evening operations and dinner service at Nest Kiosk once we open for dinner service (approx. 5pm to 9pm) as well as events/cocktail functions.
You will have experience working in a rapid-paced, quality-driven culinary team. You may have experience at Sous / Senior Chef level in a reputable establishment, or have the passion to step into this leadership role.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the Head Chef with the day-to-day running of the kitchen, particularly during daytime service when the Head Chef is not present.
- Support with dinner service, as well as events/cocktail functions. Delegate daily tasks and oversee food preparation.
- Lead and collaborate with Directors and Head Chef in creating daily specials and menu ideas for dinner service and events/cocktail functions.
- Lead timely kitchen production of the kitchen team, maintaining quality standards at all times.
- Assist the Head Chef with training and development of the kitchen team, maintaining quality standards at all times.
- Assist the Head Chef in management and placing of stock orders.
- Assist the Head Chef to implement and oversee the food safety management system and kitchen and food hygiene standards.
- Engage in regular meetings with Directors and Head Chef to review quality, budget, service, staff standards and provide feedback with a focus on improvement.
The Successful Candidate will have:
- Relevant experience in the industry, and leadership and management skills. Previous Sous/Senior Chef experience is not mandatory but highly regarded.
- 1-2 years in a similar fast-paced, busy cafe/kiosk environment.
- Outstanding knowledge of food, culinary skills, and genuine passion for food.
- Strong communication, organisation and forward planning skills.
- Passion for training, mentorship and development of staff.
- Ability to remain calm and focused in a very fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to quality and consistency.
- Approachable, positive and proactive manner with a growth mindset.
- Flexibility to work weekends (at least one day), evenings (approx. 4pm to 9pm), events, and public holidays as required.
- Full, current and clean driving licence.
Position can start after successful trial shifts, with full capacity hours commencing in early to mid-October 2025.
