**About Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospital**
Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospital (BMDH) comprises two networked campus at Blacktown and Mount Druitt in Western Sydney. Currently hosting over 500 beds and 90,000 patients presenting to the Emergency Departments each year, the Hospital provides a complex range of healthcare in one of the fastest growing geographic populations in NSW. The completed second stage of the Expansion Project includes expanded capacity for emergency, intensive care, theatres and women's & children's health. These state-of-the-art facilities together with the transition to a major teaching hospital, will transition BMDH into one of the largest and digitally enabled public hospital in NSW, and one of the nation's leading health facilities.
The Blacktown campus provides a 24-hour emergency service, intensive and high dependency care, specialist adult acute medical and surgical services, a comprehensive cancer centre, obstetrics and newborn care and mental health services. Ambulatory care services include satellite renal dialysis, chemotherapy, primary care and community health, drug and alcohol and dental clinic services.
The Mount Druitt campus provides a 24-hour emergency service, paediatric medicine, an elective surgical centre of excellence, rehabilitation medicine and palliative care. Ambulatory care services include oral health and an older adult non-acute mental health service. BMDH is accredited for training for most specialties and is networked with Westmead Hospital for Surgical Skills Training, Basic Physician Training, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Emergency Medicine, Intensive Care Medicine, Radiology, Anaesthetics and Mental Health. Highly competitive rotations have also been established for Critical Care, General Registration (for International Medical Graduates), and vocational General Practice. BMDH is a major teaching hospital for the Western Sydney University School of Medicine. **What you'll be doing**
The primary purpose of the Advanced Trainee in Paediatrics at Blacktown-Mt Druitt Hospital is to provide effective clinical management of Paediatric medical patients, under appropriate supervision, whilst developing expertise in Paediatric practice, in a complex environment. The Advanced Trainee (Paediatrics) works closely with all members of a multi-disciplinary team and deals with matters of an urgent or sensitive nature, whilst exercising discretion, sensitivity and maintaining confidentiality.
It is expected that the Advance Trainee has been exposed to all aspects of general paediatrics medicine and is able to competently assess children presenting to the Emergency department across both sites (BMDH) and make appropriate provisional diagnoses and management plan. The Advanced Trainee is also expected to be proficient at both neonatal and paediatric resuscitation. The trainee will be working as part of a team to provide holistic medical care for paediatric and neonatal inpatients. The Trainee is also expected to review patients in Paediatric Ambulatory Care clinics at Mount Druitt Hospital. The Advance Trainee will be exposed to a broad range of developmental and behavioural problems and they are expected to undertake the assessments as part of the multidisciplinary teams and independently where required. The Advance Trainee will be expected to assess children at risk and complete a SCAN (Suspected child abuse and Neglect) assessment when required.
The Advance Trainee will also provide consultation and advice regarding pain, fluid management and drug doses to the paediatric surgical patients admitted at Blacktown hospital and assess children presenting to Blacktown
