This Senior Specialist role sits within ASIC\'s FinTech team and contributes to the development of regulatory frameworks that respond to evolving market practices, technological change and innovation across financial services. The team
ASIC\'s Markets Group safeguards trust and confidence in Australia\'s financial markets by overseeing the full regulatory lifecycle and ensuring market participants operate with integrity, resilience and transparency. Within the Group, the FinTech team leads ASIC\'s work on crypto and digital assets, tokenisation and decentralised finance, shaping regulatory policy through law reform, guidance development, and close engagement with industry and internal stakeholders.
The role
Senior Specialist in the FinTech Team provides strategic advice, analysis and expertise across complex regulatory and policy workstreams associated with financial innovation and emerging technologies. You will work closely with senior leaders as ASIC continues to evolve its regulatory approach in this area. You will be accountable for:
* Providing strategic analysis and advice on highly complex regulatory matters, including legislative and law reform initiatives and the development of regulatory frameworks relevant to innovative and evolving financial services
* Providing guidance and support to ASIC staff on emerging products and services, including the underlying technologies and business models
* Supporting executive‐level engagement, including with the Commission, on innovation‐driven market developments, regulatory priorities and associated risks
* Contributing to the development of supervisory, enforcement and change management strategies to support implementation of new or evolving regulatory regimes
* Driving targeted initiatives that advance responsible innovation and the modernisation of Australia\'s financial system
* Developing and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including representing ASIC in government, regulatory or industry forums
* Embedding the use of data, regulatory intelligence and technical analysis to support evidence‐based decision making and continuous improvement
About You
You bring substantial experience in the fintech industry, financial services, financial markets or a regulatory environment, with a strong understanding of technology, policy, risk and compliance issues. Your experience may have been gained through government policy roles, regulatory settings, a fintech firm or legal practice, and you are able to translate complex reform, innovation or emerging technology developments into practical regulatory outcomes. You have strong analytical and research skills, experience providing technical advice to senior decision‐making forums, and the ability to manage complex work involving multiple stakeholders. Relevant tertiary qualifications are required.
You communicate clearly and effectively with a wide range of audiences and work collaboratively across organisational boundaries. You manage competing priorities, take responsibility for delivering outcomes, and apply sound judgement in ambiguous and evolving environments. You demonstrate strong problem‐solving and risk management capability, value evidence‐based decision making, have strong communication skills and model ASIC\'s values of accountability, professionalism and teamwork.
