Safety Specialist - Aviation / Mission Critical Environment
Location: Remote (Australia) Security Clearance: Baseline Security Clearance required Contract: 6-month contract with 6-month extension option
Our client is seeking an experienced Safety Specialist to support a high-profile, mission‐critical program within a complex aviation and operational technology environment. This role will ensure safety and operational assurance considerations are embedded into solution design, integration activities, and delivery planning—particularly where changes impact critical operational systems.
As the Safety Specialist, you will ensure proposed solutions appropriately address safety, reliability, maintainability, and availability considerations in line with stringent aviation and critical infrastructure expectations. You will contribute directly to safety case development and ensure that safety risks are proactively identified, assessed, and mitigated throughout the program lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct safety impact assessments across multiple workstreams (including systems integration, service design frameworks, and operational process platforms such as ServiceNow).
* Develop and contribute to safety case input artefacts, including:
o Hazards and controls summaries
o Operational readiness considerations
o Change impacts to operational procedures
* Participate in option assessments and gate reviews to ensure:
o Safety risks are visible in decision packs
o Mitigations are feasible and appropriately costed
* Embed safety deliverables into project plans and procurement activities.
* Work collaboratively with vendors to ensure Reliability, Maintainability, and Availability (RMA) considerations are reflected in solution designs.
* Support integration of safety controls into implementation and assurance plans.
Required Qualifications
* Demonstrated experience in Safety Engineering / Safety Assurance within:
o Aviation environments (e.g. CASR 171, 172, 175), and/or
o Critical infrastructure, defence, or other mission‐critical environments
* Experience contributing to formal safety cases and hazard analysis
* Strong understanding of operational risk in complex integrated environments
* Ability to work across multidisciplinary technical and operational teams
* Experience participating in governance forums, gate reviews, and risk assessments
* Understanding of integration impacts across cyber, data, and operational platforms
