About Guidera O'Connor

From desalination plants providing clean water to Australian communities, to treatment facilities that return wastewater safely to the environment, Guidera O'Connor designs and delivers tailored solutions that make a real difference to people's lives. More than infrastructure, we deliver value, creating the systems that make safe, clean water possible for people and communities across the country, now and into the future.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Capability Lead

This is a rare role that sits at the intersection of two of the most strategically important areas of modern people practice - Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and Capability & Development. As GO's dedicated DEI and Capability Development Partner, you will own the DEI strategy end-to-end while simultaneously building the frameworks that ensure GO has the right capability, in the right places, at the right time.

A key priority for the role will be driving GO's DEI agenda, including ownership of diversity strategies, gender equality action plans, workforce diversity targets and external partnerships that support talent attraction and workforce participation. Alongside the DEI portfolio, you will establish and embed a company-wide capability framework that supports leadership development, workforce planning, succession planning and career progression across technical, professional and leadership streams.

Success will be measured through tangible business outcomes, workforce capability uplift, achievement of diversity targets and the establishment of scalable frameworks that support GO's continued growth nationally.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement GO's DEI strategy and supporting action plans, aligned to internal targets and client commitments.
  • Identify and manage external partnerships to deliver on diversity targets across the business.
  • Champion an inclusive workplace culture consistent with GO's guiding principles.
  • Track, measure and report on DEI progress against agreed targets for internal leadership and external clients.
  • Advise leaders on inclusive practice, equitable hiring, and building diverse teams.
  • Support the development of policies and practices that embed diversity and equity into everyday operations.
  • Implement capability and competency assessment frameworks, partnering with managers to assess individual and team capability.
  • Lead succession planning across the organisation, identifying critical roles and developing internal pipeline strategies.
  • Develop and implement retention strategies for critical and key roles.
  • Support workforce resource planning and longer-term strategic forecasting.
  • Use capability assessments and resource forecasting to inform strategic decisions - including whether to recruit externally or develop internal talent for future key roles.

What we're looking for

  • DEI Strategy: Demonstrated experience designing and delivering DEI strategies - not just programs. Understand how to build accountability into an organisation's operating rythm.
  • Client & Stakeholder Context: Comfortable working in an environment where DEI targets are set both internally and by external clients. Experience in reporting to clients on DEI progress highly regarded.
  • Capability frameworks: Practical experience implementing capability and competency assessment frameworks across a multi-discipline workforce.
  • Succession & talent planning: Strong understanding of succession planning methodology, talent pipeline development, and critical role retention strategies.
  • Workforce forecasting: Ability to use data - capability assessments, resource forecasts, and gap analysis - to inform strategic workforce decisions.
  • Learning & development: Experience designing or commissioning L&D solutions that address identified capability gaps, including knowledge transfer programs.
  • Partnerships: Track record of building and managing external partnerships to support DEI or capability outcomes.
  • Communication & influence: Credible, empathetic communicator who can influence leaders, engage employees at all levels, and represent GO externally.
  • HR generalist foundation: At least 7 years' HR experience providing a solid generalist base from which to deliver specialist DEI and capability work.

Benefits

Guidera offers you meaningful and interesting work all within a great culture and work environment.

  • Free parking
  • Office lunch provided daily
  • Flexible work arrangements
  • Additional annual leave for service milestones
  • 15 days' personal leave
  • Company funded wellbeing program

Additionally, as part of our commitment to Reconciliation Action, we encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people for all positions.
