This role is critical to maintaining and supporting core business software during a major transition to a next-generation platform.
You'll be stepping into a well-established system, replacing a retiring team member, and will be the go-to expert during your shifts.
The role demands strong technical depth, autonomy, and a proactive mindset to ensure reliability and performance of our software during high-profile live sporting events.
This role requires working an on-call roster, covering live sporting events (AFL and more).
Key ResponsibilitiesMaintain and support legacy Java-based systems (Java 25, Gradle, Git and build pipelines) with the rest of the Java teamParticipate in an on-call support roster during AFL and other live sporting events (evenings/weekends)Investigate and resolve performance issues, provide post-event analysis and implement improvementsCollaborate with operational teams to ensure systems are running as expectedContribute to comparative analysis between legacy and new systemsSupport other Java-based applications as needed across the businessAbout YouSenior-level experience in Java and related technologies (JSP, Jetty, Spring, REST APIs)Comfortable working independently and diving deep into complex codebasesStrong troubleshooting and performance analysis skillsExperience with CI/CD pipelines, Git workflows, and SQL (Oracle preferred)Agile team experience and excellent communication skillsWhy Champion DataFor over 20 years, Champion Data has been at the forefront of delivering sports stats globally.
