**The Role**
The Maritime Fluid Specialist will conduct investigations using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) in support of hydrodynamics and hydroacoustics research into maritime platforms (e.g. ships, submarines and UUVs) and their propulsion systems. They are also responsible for interpreting, reporting, and presenting results from these studies.
In this role you will engage with experimental programs and trials related to maritime platforms in the planning, execution, post processing and reporting stages.
Duties include:
- Perform CFD studies of maritime platforms, their appendages and propulsors.
- Validate and verify CFD studies of maritime platforms to provide scientific and engineering insight.
- Contribute to collaborative research projects with Australian universities, industry, and international partners.
**About our Team**
DST Group's Platforms Division provides technologies and scientific and technical (S&T;) expertise to deliver the capability edge to the warfighter and enhance the operational performance and survivability of Defence platforms in the maritime domain. The Acoustic Signature Management branch of Platforms Division provides Australia's primary capability for the management and control of acoustic signatures of Defence platforms and the hydrodynamic, propulsion, and manoeuvring performance of ships and submarines.
The Hydroacoustics group undertakes computational and experimental studies addressing the hydrodynamics, manoeuvring, and hydroacoustics aspects of maritime platform design and operation. This includes the design of experiments and trials, and development and validation of computational fluid dynamics simulations and associated hydrodynamic techniques to examine and evaluate new and innovative platform designs.
The group also research on flow noise generated by the platform and on propellers and propulsor systems, including evaluating propulsor performance and through life management. The group has access to a number of world class experimental facilities.
