The Compliance Engineer is a vital member of our Compliance Engineering team, responsible for ensuring our heavy haulage trailers meet the stringent regulatory and legal standards mandated by Australian authorities.
This role demands a strong engineering foundation, a comprehensive understanding of Australian transport laws, and the ability to effectively apply this knowledge within a manufacturing environment.
Key challenges of this role include proactively managing all compliance requirements for our organisation. You will be instrumental in overseeing PBS (Performance Based Standards) projects, managing reporting channels, and providing sign-off on critical compliance-related documentation.
Success in this role requires industry-specific experience and relevant technical qualifications.
To excel as our Compliance Engineer, you will possess a robust technical background and remain current with the latest regulatory developments impacting the heavy haulage sector in Australia.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate solid analytical skills coupled with the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and effectively to colleagues and management.
What You'll Do
Utilise SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and TrailerWIN CAD packages to develop high-level concept drawings for the road transportation industry.Collaborate closely with the engineering team to develop innovative trailer combination designs that are fully compliant with Australian Design Regulations (ADR) and Performance Based Standards (PBS).Ensure all our products strictly adhere to Australian Design Rules (ADRs), state-specific regulations, and all other relevant legal requirements.Conduct regular and thorough reviews of manufacturing processes and product designs to proactively identify and mitigate potential compliance risks.Accurately complete brake variant calculations and ROVER submissions.Liaise effectively with engineering and design teams to seamlessly integrate compliance requirements throughout the product development lifecycle.Proactively keep up-to-date with all changes in relevant legislation and industry standards, and provide timely and informed advice to the company on the implications of these changes.Coordinate efficiently with certification bodies and regulatory authorities to secure necessary product approvals and certifications.Develop and maintain comprehensive and well-organised documentation of all compliance activities and reports.Provide clear and effective training and guidance to staff on all compliance-related matters.Actively participate in product testing and validation processes to rigorously ensure adherence to legal and regulatory standards.Provide essential assistance in applying for and maintaining CTAs (Component Type Approvals) and VTAs (Vehicle Type Approvals) within the ROVER system.
What you'll need:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.A minimum of 3 years of practical experience in engineering roles within the heavy haulage, automotive, or broader manufacturing sectors.Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within engineering teams and across functional teams, showcasing excellent communication and project management skills.Familiarity with ERP systems; experience with SAP is considered a significant bonus.A proactive and solution-oriented mindset with a keen and unwavering attention to detail.Meticulous, highly organised, and methodical approach to all work tasks.Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritise tasks effectively to meet deadlines.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and TrailerWIN CAD software.
