The Role
Based at a busy site in Laverton, the Safety Officer will play a hands-on role driving safety initiatives and supporting day-to-day operations. Reporting into the site leadership team, you'll be a visible presence on the shop floor, working closely with union representatives, operations, and engineering to maintain strong safety outcomes. The role also provides the opportunity to travel interstate a couple of times a year to support broader site activities.
Key Responsibilities of the role:
* Lead safety training and manual handling programs, with a focus on building capability on the shop floor
* Support risk assessments, incident investigations, and Take 5 processes
* Maintain compliance documentation and assist in progressing towards ISO 14001 certification
* Partner with operations and production teams to ensure safe work practices across assembly, storage, and paint/respray activities
* Act as the point of contact for safety on site, while linking into the national and global safety teams
About You
We're looking for a safety professional who thrives in a practical, hands-on environment. You'll be confident engaging with people at all levels, from floor staff to senior leadership, and bring a collaborative approach to building trust and driving improvement. Ideally you will bring:
* Experience in logistics, supply chain, or manufacturing environments
* Strong working knowledge of manual handling and chemical risk management
* Qualifications in WHS; Lead or Internal Auditor certifications highly regarded
* The ability to operate independently while collaborating across multiple functions
