About The Opportunity
We are seeking an Architect to join the City Architect's Office for a 12‐month term contract to play a key role in shaping the City's built environment and delivering high‐quality, design‐led outcomes for the community.
Responsibilities
Working within the City Architect and Transformational Design directorate, you will provide architectural and urban design leadership across council‐led projects, development assessment, and design review. As a registered Architect in NSW, you will work closely with the City Architect and Senior Architect to influence city‐shaping projects from concept to delivery, including WSIG projects. The role provides expert architectural advice across the organisation, contributes to the design and delivery of community infrastructure, public spaces, and place‐making initiatives, coordinates the council's Design Review Panel, prepares speculative designs for key sites, reviews development applications, and promotes best‐practice architecture across the City.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
* Degree qualifications in Architecture or Urban Design
* Registered Architect in NSW
* High‐level design and presentation skills in Architecture, urban design, and place‐making
* Extensive experience working within an Architect's office on project design and delivery
* Extensive experience in preparing and reviewing development applications and project documentation for tender and construction
* Knowledge and experience in applying applicable legislation and regulations
* Design management experience of complex architectural projects and large consultant teams
* CAD and presentation skills using SketchUp, Revit, MicroStation, 3D Studio Max, Lumion, Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator
* Design, research, analytical and problem‐solving skills to generate innovative solutions to sometimes conflicting objectives
* Oral communication skills with the ability to liaise with all levels of internal and external customers
* Negotiation and dispute resolution skills with the ability to proactively engage with stakeholders
* Experience managing complex projects relating to the urban environment, on time and within budget
* Commitment to customer service
* Team‐working ability
* Knowledge of the New South Wales Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, Local Government Act 1993 and other relevant legislation, regulations, state planning policies and instruments
* Current Class C driver's licence
Desirable
* Experience and ability to function as an expert witness in the NSW Land and Environment Court (LEC)
* Urban design experience
* Public space design experience
* Project management and design management experience
* Experience in GIS systems
* Experience with spatial data technologies such as Giraffe for mapping, modelling and analytics
* Experience working as an Architect, or in a related field within Local Government and/or State Government
* WHS Construction White Card
Remuneration And Benefits
* Entry level salary starts at $2,165.24 per week
