JUNIOR RESEARCH ASSISTANT
An exciting opportunity is currently available for a Junior Research Assistant to join The Ritchie Centre at Hudson Institute of Medical Research, Australia's leading Medical Research Institute:
The Junior Research Assistant is responsible for supporting laboratory-based research activities through the set-up and conduct of routine experiments, tissue collection and processing, data entry, and general laboratory support tasks. The role contributes to high-quality biomedical research outcomes in a collaborative, clinician-informed research environment.
The Research Assistant will report to the Research Group Head and maintain close working relationships with laboratory staff, scientific support teams and other Institute stakeholders, including some external stakeholders.
SELECTION CRITERIA
The role will suit someone who is:
· Ethical and safety-conscious, with a strong understanding of laboratory compliance and protocols
· Highly collaborative and team-oriented, with the ability to work independently when required
· Well organised, detail-focused and reliable
· Open to feedback and committed to learning and continuous improvement
Qualifications desired:
· Relevant laboratory training, certification or tertiary qualifications in science, biomedical science or a related discipline
· Prior experience in a laboratory or research support role is desirable
Your responsibilities include:
· Setting up and performing routine experiments according to documented protocols
· Tissue collection, processing and biobanking (including placenta, uterine tissue and blood samples)
· Accurate data entry and maintenance of laboratory records
· Ordering laboratory supplies and monitoring stock levels
· Standard use and basic set-up of general laboratory equipment
· Recording and documenting experimental procedures in accordance with established protocols
· Using judgement to resolve routine issues and contributing to process improvements where appropriate
EMPLOYMENT TERMS
This position is a fixed term contract role in a Part time (0.6 – 0.8 FTE) capacity. Salary is based on Research Support Group RSS X dependent on level of experience. Superannuation of 12% and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
Due to the nature of biological sample collection, a level of flexibility in working hours will be required. This role will include occasional Saturday work.
