The chance 
Wollongong City Council is looking for a passionate and energetic Technician to join our Memorial Gardens and Cemeteries team, supporting sites across the Wollongong Local Government Area. 
In this hands-on role, you\'ll be part of a close-knit and supportive team that takes pride in delivering respectful, high-quality services to our community. 
Your work will include: 
Maintaining beautiful and peaceful grounds through horticultural care and general upkeep 
Supporting burial and memorial operations with professionalism and compassion 
Providing empathetic customer service to grieving families and visitors 
Coordinating with office staff to ensure timely, respectful service delivery and customer requests 
Operating plant and machinery (e.g. excavators and trucks) once training is completed 
Assisting with funeral and memorialisation processes as needed 
This is a physically active role requiring fitness and the ability of undertaking duties as described in the job description, working outdoors in all weather conditions. To support work-life balance, you will work 70 hours over a 9-day fortnight, overtime and weekend work may be offered based on operational requirements. 
How you\'ll make a difference 
As a Technician in our Memorial Gardens and Cemeteries team, you\'ll be responsible for delivering high-quality grounds and general maintenance across our sites. This includes operating a variety of plant and equipment, such as ride-on mowers and small machinery, while performing manual outdoor tasks in all weather conditions. You\'ll be expected to work both independently and collaboratively, managing your time effectively to meet daily operational needs. 
A key part of this role involves providing compassionate and respectful service to bereaved families and visitors. You will assist in burial and memorialisation processes, requiring a high level of sensitivity and professionalism. It is essential that this role communicates clearly and empathetically supporting our community during difficult times. 
About you 
You are someone who takes pride in your adaptability and thrives in changing conditions. Safety is a top priority for you-you lead by example and consistently meet your responsibilities under Work Health and Safety (WHS) standards. 
With strong communication skills and a calm, respectful approach, you can provide exceptional customer service in sensitive and emotionally challenging environments, and you are at ease working in cemetery settings. 
You work well in a team, respond positively to direction, and show initiative in getting tasks done. Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors, you can perform manual labour and operating equipment safely. Above all, you\'re committed to maintaining the dignity and presentation of our Cemeteries and Memorial Gardens facilities.

Position details 
This is a Permanent Full-Time position. Salary ranges from $70,532.34 to $77,824.07 (Salary package will be assessed based on skills, experience, and qualifications)
