**Job Description**
As a Residential Support Worker, you will be responsible for creating a secure and nurturing home environment for children and young people who have experienced childhood trauma, abuse or neglect. Your role involves delivering personalised support and guidance to help them develop independent life skills, assist with emotional regulation and provide opportunities for re-engagement in education and community activities.
You will work closely with the care team to promote and assist young people to achieve their goals, establish a rapport and collaborate effectively to achieve positive outcomes. You must be able to manage behavioural escalations, assist the young person to co-regulate emotionally, perform domestic duties and support the young person to learn how to look after themselves.
Key responsibilities include:
* Promote and assist young people to achieve goals identified in Individual Case Plans
* Assist young people to develop independence and build community networks
* Support the young person's interests
* Establish a rapport and collaborate effectively with young people to achieve positive outcomes
* Manage behavioural escalations and assist the young person to co-regulate emotionally
* Domestic duties and supporting the young person to learn how to look after themselves eg cooking, housework, laundry
* Communicate with the care team and report incidents promptly and accurately
* Medication administration (when required)
* Maintenance of progress notes and record keeping
**Required Skills and Qualifications**
To be successful in this role, you will need:
* A Certificate IV in Youth Work, Mental Health, or relevant qualification (or willing to obtain)
* Experience working with young people who have experienced significant trauma and neglect, including the management of behaviours of concern
* Ability to demonstrate highly effective interpersonal skills with young people and stakeholders
* Demonstrate confidentiality and have strong understanding of professional boundaries
* Experience working with young people from indigenous or other cultural backgrounds
* A current Provide First Aid Certificate
* A current Drivers Licence
