Associate Director ICT (Infrastructure & Operations)

Grade:11/12Salary range:$149,739-$173,174 + superannuation and leave loadingDuration: permanent full-time role, ongoingLocation: Hybrid working arrangements are supported; however, this role requires a regular and visible in-office presence, primarily in Sydney (McKell Building), to effectively lead operational teams, manage incidents and vendors, and support service governance.

Gosford is available as an alternative office location in line with DCS workplace arrangements. In-office requirements are subject to change in accordance with DCS workplace policies.

Lead the stability, resilience and modernisation of enterprise ICT platforms at scale — shaping how critical government services run today while enabling what comes next.

We're looking for a confident, hands-on ICT operations leader who wants to own and improve the platforms that keep critical services running, while playing a key role in modernising how technology is delivered across the organisation.

In this role, you'll lead talented operational teams and vendors, make real decisions that matter, and help shape a stable, scalable and future-ready technology environment.

About the team

This role sits within the Enterprise Architecture, Data & Innovation (EADI) team in the NSW Telco Authority. Enterprise Architecture, Data & Innovation (EADI) provides leadership across enterprise technology foundations, data and analytics, AI and core ICT operations, working closely with business and delivery teams to ensure platforms are reliable, secure and scalable. The Associate Director ICT (Infrastructure & Operations) is a senior leader within EADI, partnering with architecture, data, AI and innovation teams to keep services running well while enabling modernisation and uplift across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

* Lead the day-to-day operation of enterprise infrastructure and ICT services to ensure reliability, security and fitness for purpose
* Lead and develop managers and senior technical specialists across infrastructure platforms and IT operations
* Maintain accountability for service availability, performance, incident response and operational outcomes across critical systems
* Manage vendors and managed service providers, including contracts, service performance and escalations
* Drive continuous improvement in operational maturity, service management, resilience and governance
* Partner closely with architecture, data, AI and innovation teams to support modernisation while maintaining operational stability
* Engage with senior executives and stakeholders to translate operational priorities into clear, actionable outcomes

To be successful in this role you will

* Hold Essential Security Clearance: You will be able to obtain and retain minimum Baseline Security clearance within six months to work with sensitive government and critical communications information
* Be a hands-on senior leader with deep experience in ICT infrastructure and cloud operations, comfortable leading in complex, high-pressure environments
* Have proven accountability for enterprise ICT run environments, including service availability, incident management and escalation
* Have strong public or hybrid cloud experience, including hands-on responsibility for stabilising, operating and uplifting cloud platforms in production environments
* Be a leader who actively drives outcomes - comfortable stepping into operational and technical detail when required to guide teams, demonstrate good practice and unblock delivery
* Have demonstrated people leadership capability, including leading managers and senior technical specialists and holding teams accountable
* Have experience working within defined governance, risk and control frameworks, ideally in government or highly regulated environments
* Have strong experience managing vendors and managed service providers, including performance management and structured escalation

We work with emergency services and telecommunications carriers to protect communications assets during emergencies and natural disasters. NSWTA is a delivery agency with responsibility for over $1.5 billion in key NSW Government projects that connect communities and support emergency services. We lead and coordinate whole-of-government connectivity strategy to bridge the digital divide and help keep people and places safe.
