Position Information Sutherland Hospital School is a small school located within the Child and Adolescent Ward of Sutherland Hospital. The school provides educational support to hospitalised students from Kindergarten to Year 12 from all school systems and is committed to providing the continuity of quality education for students through strong partnerships with students, parents and census schools. Our purpose is to ensure an equitable education service that aims to; eliminate gaps in education and well-being, engage students in meaningful learning and lead the educational adjustments needed to facilitate and interpret student health status and treatment plans. Staff work as proactive members of multidisciplinary teams, whilst striving to support our students to have the same educational opportunities as their healthy peers, by expertly scaffolding student complexity and leading innovative and evidence-based solutions to census schools through high quality individual learning programs, and weekly Orientation e-Tours for students. Collaboration with each students’ home school, assessment, data analysis and student performance measures will be used to inform our practice and ensure the best outcomes for all our students.
Selection Criteria In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary. Evidence of outstanding educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex school focussed on the delivery of high quality education. Capacity to manage the dual role of a teaching principal with a proven ability to implement a differentiated curriculum to support and continue educational outcomes. Demonstrated strategic leadership that builds staff capacity in providing equitable and inclusive learning environments that meet the diverse needs of students Highly visible leader with outstanding interpersonal skills, and a proven ability to build positive relationships by collaborating with school, healthcare, and medical professionals to support the diverse academic and emotional needs of students facing health challenges.
General Selection Criteria 1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education 2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs 3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community 4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning 5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning 6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policies and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people
Conditions An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school’s RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Teaching Principal Level TP1 for 2026. Staff working in schools within hospitals and youth justice centres must follow any vaccination requirements of NSW Health and Department of Communities and Justice respectively. Applicants are to include details of their WWCC clearance number as part of this application.
