. Healthcare Australia (HCA) is a major provider of healthcare services across Australia, including allied health, primary care, recruitment, NDIS, care services, and training. In December ****, we began providing health, mental health, and wellbeing services across the onshore Immigration Detention network.
The General Practitioner is responsible for leading and managing the delivery of high-quality primary healthcare services to immigration detainees within the detention centre.
Location & Employment Type
Northam, Yongah Hill Immigration Detention Centre – Full-time, permanent onsite role with potential for a hybrid work model.
Key Responsibilities
Leading and managing the delivery of high-quality primary healthcare services to immigration detainees.
Managing a wide range of complex presentations including mental health conditions, substance use issues, and trauma-related health concerns.
Providing clinical oversight and acting as the primary medical escalation point for health staff.
Providing preventative health checks, immunisations, and health promotion.
Managing acute medical presentations and complex comorbidities.
Managing chronic diseases and attending to day-to-day medical concerns.
Supporting patients with acute and chronic mental health issues alongside the multidisciplinary mental health team.
Adapting to evolving operational requirements and changing health needs of the immigration detention cohort.
Qualifications & Experience
Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) and full registration with the Medical Board of Australia, without restrictions.
Fellowship with the RACGP, ACRRM, or equivalent substantial clinical practice experience.
Demonstrated capability in managing mental health and alcohol or other drug concerns, with an understanding of trauma-informed care.
Authorisation as an opioid substitution treatment prescriber (mandatory) or willingness to obtain authorisation.
Knowledge and experience in managing public health issues and communicable diseases, and a strong understanding of vulnerable populations.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Commitment to continuous improvement, reflective practice, and maintaining high clinical standards.
Clear understanding of ethical considerations and confidentiality in healthcare delivery.
