Company context and positions
Established fishing company working in the Australian Fishing Zones, seeks the following full-time fishing industry positions: Ships Master, Ships Engineer, Master Fisher, Ships Officer, Deckhands & Fishing Hands, Seafood Processors.
This company maintains a drug- and alcohol-free workplace; employees can be subject to random drug and alcohol testing. This is a condition of employment. You will be based on the NSW South East Coast but may be required to work in other locations subject to operational requirements.
Ranked positions and qualifications
With regard to the following:
* Ship's Master
* Ships Engineer (Fishing)
* Master Fisher
* Ship's Officer
Successful candidates should ideally have at least 5 years of relevant experience in this particular industry sector for ranked positions. Sea time of less than 5 years may be considered subject to your experience. Where you are required to hold a license or registration, you MUST hold the appropriate tickets or you will not be considered.
Other positions
* Fishing and Deckhands
Fishing and Deckhands should have no less than 1 year's Australian work experience and must be evidenced by sea-time or logbook. Verifiable letters of reference may also be acceptable. For all positions you must provide verifiable references. You need to be strong as these positions involve working on a deck, often in heavy seas and sometimes in cramped spaces. Ranked positions may include managing fishing operations aboard your vessel in consultation with the company owners.
You will be away from home for several days or occasionally weeks. Normally there is usually a short turnaround before returning to sea.
For successful candidates, salary or percentage of catch rate as per industry standards will be negotiated according to qualifications, skills, experience and performance in the same or similar occupation.
Salary ranges
Annual salary for full-time employees for the relevant occupation will fall in the range of:
* Ship's Master: $120,000 or greater, subject to negotiation
* Ships Engineer (Fishing): $72,000 to $82,000
* Master Fisher: $75,000 to $82,000
* Ship's Officer: $72,000 to $82,000
* Deck and Fishing Hands: $68,800 to in excess of $78,000
All the above occupations are plus government regulated superannuation guarantee.
Seafood Processors
We are seeking highly experienced seafood process workers to work in our processing area. We have both full-time and seasonal vacancies.
You should ideally have a minimum of 2 years' experience as a seafood processor with verifiable references.
* Your duties may include some or all of the following typical tasks:
* Assist in unloading fresh seafood product from vessels
* Moving various seafood products to chillers, freezers and live tanks
* Sorting, dressing and filleting fish with a proven ability to maintain a high recovery rate
* Sorting, cleaning and retrieving meat from shellfish and crustaceans
* Loading seafood products into trucks
* Packing boned and filleted seafood into cartons
* Inspecting and grading fish and shellfish for size and quality
* Packing fish and counting packs before freezing, and packing frozen fish blocks into cartons
* Operating machines which slice, peel, skin, crumb and package seafood product
* Cleaning and sanitizing equipment and work areas
* Ensure that all workplace safety regulations are complied with
Wages for Seafood Processors
The salary for this full-time position is between $68,800 and in excess of $78,000 per year plus superannuation guarantee (government-regulated) for highly experienced industry workers.
