Currently, there are around 5.5 million Australians with a disability. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare. As an Agency, we support more than 717,000 participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability. For many Australians, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need. The NDIA is designed to enhance the quality of life and increase economic and social participation for people with disability and will mean a peace of mind for every Australian.
A new role awaits
The NDIA is seeking a candidate to fill a vacancy for the role of Assistant Director, Assistive Technology (AT) Markets. The AT Markets team in the Market Strategy Branch delivers AT Market stewardship activities and uses evidence to design, develop and implement innovative market solutions which can be scaled to enhance participant outcomes.
The Market Strategy Branch aims to build an empowering, sustainable, and consistent approach to ensuring participants benefit from supports and markets (including assistive technology, employment, and other key sectors) that enable and enhance their home, community, and economic participation. We drive innovative market approaches and long-term strategies to improve participant-centric outcomes and sector capability.

In the role of NDIA EL1 Assistant Director Assistive Technology Markets, tasks include but are not limited to:
* Providing specialist advice and technical expertise regarding AT, to internal and external stakeholders.
* Performing independent research work and data analysis, using best available evidence.
* Engaging with internal and external stakeholders, to explore market challenges and opportunities.
* Preparing high quality written material including presentations, reports, project plans, business cases, executive briefs and corporate documentation.
* Leading projects, including project management, identifying project and market risks, project reporting and delivering innovative solutions on time and within budget.
* Supporting Agency reform activities, including development of policy and service design.
* Line management of staff, to support team skill development and workload.

The following skills, experience and attributes will be required to be successful in the role:
* Understanding, knowledge or experience of disability, evidence-based practice and a participant centred approach.
* An understanding of the Assistive Technology (AT) market, and the role of various stakeholders in AT assessment and supply.
* Subject matter expertise regarding AT, including experience in the assessment and/or supply of AT for people with disability.
* Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
* Demonstrated capacity to apply conceptual and analytical skills to complex problems, to identify practical and innovative solutions.
* Demonstrated experience in exercising sound judgement in making decisions, and prioritisation of time.
* Experience leading teams to achieve quality outcomes, in a timely manner.
* Experience in managing projects or research, including the identification and management of project risks, issues and benefits.
Desirable skills, experience and qualifications:
* Qualifications in allied health (including but not limited to, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech pathology, or prosthetics and orthotics).
* Experience in the assessment and provision of complex assistive technology, for children and/or adults with disability.
* Experience leading high performing teams and demonstrated skills in supporting staff development and growth.
* Skills in leading projects, including development of project scope, schedules, project risk registers and reports.
* Experience in stakeholder engagement.

While this role is ideally performed from any NDIA office location, remote working arrangements may be considered. We intend to fill this role in an ongoing capacity, however non-ongoing roles up to 12 months with the possibility of extension up to 2 years may be offered.
Successful candidates will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police History check, Worker Screening check and/or Working with Children Check (where required) and provide evidence of Australian Citizenship.
