Based in Melbourne Australia, the Victorian Automotive Chamber of Commerce (VACC) is an automotive industry employer association that protects and promotes the interests of its members through advocacy initiatives and the provision of automotive industry products and services.
Founded in 1918, VACC today provides its members with access to a suite of support measures that assist them in running modern automotive businesses. These includes access to Australia's largest automotive technical library, automotive-specific advice and assistance in human resources, workplace relations, OHS&E regulation training and compliance. About the role
VACC is seeking a dedicated and experienced Workplace Lawyer to join our dynamic Workplace Relations team. This role is ideal for a legal professional with 1-3 years' post admission experience in employment law who is eager to provide comprehensive, high-impact industrial and legal advice to our valued members within the automotive industry.
Reporting to the Executive Manager – Workplace Relations & Industry Policy, and working under the supervision of the Senior Workplace Lawyer, you will be responsible for managing a diverse portfolio of employment and commercial legal issues.
Key Responsibilities
* Resource Development: Research, review, prepare and disseminate relevant written advice, policies, procedures, employment contracts and templates for members, ensuring all information is current with applicable legislation and case law.
* Team Collaboration:Perform research and provide written advice and support to fellow Workplace Relations team members and across other VACC business units, as required.
* Legal Advice & Support: Provide direct, expert telephone and email support and advice to VACC Members on a broad range of workplace relations matters, including the National Employment Standards (NES), Awards, termination of employment, OHS, Workers Compensation, Equal Opportunity, Privacy, and Visa Holder issues.
* Training & Publications: Deliver workplace relations training and information seminars to VACC employees, apprentices, and members, and contribute articles to the Workplace Update publication.
* Advocacy & Submissions: Prepare submissions on employment-related issues impacting the automotive industry for State and Federal Governments and relevant industrial bodies.
* Case Management & Representation: Prepare all necessary documentation for, and attend conferences, mediations, and hearings.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will be a qualified legal professional with a passion for workplace law and industrial relations. You possess:
* Admitted to practice law in Australia.
* Strong knowledge of Australian employment legislation, industrial relations frameworks, and case law.
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to translate complex legal information into practical, actionable advice for a diverse membership base.
* Proven advocacy skills and experience representing clients in industrial tribunals (e.g., Fair Work Commission).
* A proactive approach, strong research skills, and a commitment to maintaining up-to-date knowledge of legislative changes.
