Adelaide University and the Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN) are seeking a dynamic and highly motivated Obstetrician and Gynaecologist for a joint academic and clinical appointment within the Discipline of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

This is an exceptional opportunity for a senior academic with a strong track record in teaching, research and clinical practice to provide leadership in medical education and contribute to advancing women's health services.

As a lead in clinical education, you will teach into Yr 5 & 6 Human Reproductive Health (HRH) within the Bachelor of Medical Studies/Doctor of Medicine, be involved with the Obstetrics unit providing supervision of clinical teaching to medical students across their obstetrics rotation, develop and coordinate O&G related SIM sessions and provide lectures and weekly tutorials.

Work that matters

The successful candidate will primarily be based at the Lyell McEwin Hospital, contributing to the delivery of Obstetrics and/or Gynaecology services across the Northern Adelaide Health Network (NALHN), while overseeing junior medical staff. Moreover, they will play a pivotal role in advancing teaching, research, and service development within the School of Medicine and NALHN, fostering the academic growth of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

The team

The appointee will report to the Academic Lead, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, in the School of Medicine and the Divisional Director (Medical) at the Northern Adelaide Local Health Network.

This role encompasses clinical leadership, academic support, and administrative responsibilities across both institutions, requiring a commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and clinical practice.

Key responsibilities for Adelaide University will broadly include:

* Provide leadership in teaching and research within the Discipline of Obstetrics & Gynaecology
* Foster and lead research within the discipline of Obstetrics and Gynaecology
* Teach and supervise students in the medical programs
* Provide leadership for supervision, teaching and curriculum development for the medical programs
* Provide leadership in the development of interprofessional learning
* Provide a high level of commitment to the strategic plans of the university and college
* Liaise and communicate with relevant sections of the community, professional associations and government organisations

Key responsibilities for the Northern Adelaide Local Health Network will broadly include:

Clinical Delivery

* Responsible for the provision of an effective and efficient medical service within the objectives and the philosophies of the Hospital
* Provision of medical care to hospital inpatients and outpatients, including outpatient clinics, inpatient ward rounds and theatre sessions
* Meet service requirements of NALHN in both general and high risk obstetric or gynaecology care, (including participation in the after hours on-call roster)

Clinical Leadership

* Provision of training and supervision to undergraduate and postgraduate medical trainees in the Women and Children's Division
* Encouraging and supporting multi-disciplinary teamwork amongst staff for optimal clinical service outcomes
* Involvement in continuing professional development activities
* Attendance and participation in the clinical meetings of the Hospital
* Adhering to policies, protocols and procedures as determined by the service or the Hospital that will ensure the provision of a high standard medical practice
* Contribute to the provision policy advice, evidence-based practices and leadership in Obstetrics & Gynaecology as required
* Representing the department and the Hospital at community, inter-hospital, regional and State fora as required.

Clinical Administration

* Participation in quality, safety and clinical risk management activities
* Contributing to clinical review programs to monitor standards of practice and ensure the maintenance of quality outcomes

To be successful you will need:

* Registration as a medical practitioner and specialist obstetrician and gynaecologist with AHPRA
* FRANZCOG (or equivalent)
* Experience in conducting high quality research in a recognised area of strength within the Discipline of Obstetrics and Gynaecology
* Experience in leading a grant‐funded research program in a domain relevant to Obstetrics & Gynaecology evidenced by success in obtaining major national and other grant funds, a strong publication record in high‐impact journals, international and national research collaborations, and invited national and international conference presentations
* Evidence of effective research training, including experience and success in supervision of Honours and postgraduate students.
* Demonstrated capacity to provide high‐level policy advice and leadership in women's health
* Evidence of commitment to and a high‐level expertise in teaching medical students in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, including experience in curriculum development
* High‐level experience in Obstetrics and or Gynaecological clinical practice
* Evidence of successful administration experience and leadership
