The Role
The APS 6 Contracting Officer involves overseeing contract operations and ensuring the delivery of outsourced logistics services, particularly focusing on innovative sourcing of Defence commodity items through a Fourth Party Logistics provider. The outsourced services managed under this position, includes the delivery of the entirety of the supply chain process, from sourcing to delivery, facilitated via a contemporary online marketplace.
This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. Operating under limited direction, the position requires proficient management of contract activities, including problem-solving, stakeholder coordination, and strategic initiative implementation. Candidates with a strong grasp of commercial frameworks and supply chain processes are preferred. Our ideal candidate will have the following skills:
- Strong interpersonal, organisational and communication skills with the ability to build and sustain effective working relationships with key stakeholders;
- An interest in exploring innovative approaches to support and improve business processes;
- Ability to work autonomously, and as part of a small team; and
- Demonstrated experience in supply chain management with the ability to interpret logistical data to provide reliable information to support decision making and ensure compliance to 4PL contractual terms and conditions;
- Experience in Supply Chain Management and Procurement activities within the ERP system.
