Overview

An Environmental Technician position with a focus on soils and land management is on offer at Landloch's office in Perth (WA). The role is suited to a self-motivated person and involves a combination of laboratory-based activities such as soil and erosion testing and equipment maintenance; field-based activities such as soil sampling and field data collection; and office-based activities like reviewing data, assisting in reporting, and undertaking erosion modelling. We work collaboratively with clients from a wide range of industries, including mining, linear infrastructure, agriculture, energy, and construction, and Local, State and Federal Government agencies. Task & responsibilities

The successful candidate will be involved in:

* Deployment to the field (e.g. mine sites or rangelands) and collecting data and observations.
* Setting up, parameterising and running erosion modelling using the 2D WEPP model and the 3D SIBERIA landform evolution modelling.
* Providing an interpretation of modelling outputs and presenting these as detailed visual outputs of erosion rates and material movement.
* Calculating erosion statistics based on the outcomes of erosion modelling.
* Using GIS and CAD software packages to manipulate data.
* Conducting data reviews and gap analyses.
* Utilising Artificial Intelligence to enhance Landloch's offerings.
* Entering and processing of laboratory and field data.
* Installing and maintaining field monitoring equipment.
* Working as a team member to maintain Landloch's high quality standards.

Qualification & experience

The ideal candidate will bring to the team:

* Excellent communication skills, with both written and verbal skills being important.
* Data entry skills (MS Excel, Word).
* Experience in setting up, parameterising and running erosion models.
* Experience in GIS software packages and data manipulation.
* Understanding and experience in using AI.
* Coding experience.
* A commitment to working safely and ethically, following company policies.
* Good attention to detail and commitment to quality and precision.
* A self-motivated approach to work.
* Ability to deploy into the field as required, with fieldwork campaigns sometimes as long as two weeks.
* Practical approach to problem solving.

Desirable skills

* Experience working in the field.
* Experience with soil sampling and testing.
* Experience with environmental monitoring equipment.
* GIS skills.
* A tertiary degree.
