Company Description
EcoHoist seeks to engage a Founding Mechanical Engineer to support development of new projects. EcoHoist (
) was founded by Matthew Forrest with the desire to direct his entrepreneurial engineering efforts towards decarbonisation. EcoHoist solves a suite of problems for underground mines that rely on diesel powered haul trucks to transport ore from underground. These diesel powered haul trucks are dirty, dangerous and difficult to decarbonise in a manner which is commercially viable for the mine.
EcoHoist is a startup and has gained substantial traction since inception in February 2024:
* Received 7 signed letters of interest from mining companies in Australia, Canada, USA, Kazakhstan and the Philippines
* Worked with BHP and their mining consultant, who concluded that an example EcoHoist installation could save US$82m relative to a diesel trucking base case
* Signed a Joint Development Agreement with ABB, a leading supplier of electrification equipment to mines
* Generated first revenues for the design of an EcoHoist system for a customer, under a Partnership Agreement and Preferred Supplier Agreement
* Awarded a grant by the Australian Federal Government's Industry Growth Program to finance several commercialisation activities, including the detailed design of an EcoHoist above ground demonstrator

The Role
You will lead the mechanical development of the EcoHoist system. This is a "whiteboard-to-wrench" role.
* Full Lifecycle Design:
Take ownership of the detailed design for manufacture (DFM) for our demonstrator.
- Technical Documentation:
Build the technical file from preliminary designs, including design rationale and safety analysis.
- Supply Chain Leadership:
Identify and manage the fabrication partners who will bring your designs to life.
- Safety & Compliance:
Ensure all designs meet rigorous Australian Standards for mining and machine safety.
- Strategic Input:
Work directly with the Founder to influence the long-term product roadmap.
Qualifications & Desired experiences
* Proficiency in Design Engineering and Machine Design
* Expertise in Mechanical Engineering and Product Design
* Strong experience with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools, such as Solidworks, Fusion360 or Onshape.
* Problem-solving skills and the ability to design sustainable engineering solutions
* Knowledge of the mining sector and bulk material transport systems is a plus
* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar
* Strong communication and collaboration abilities
* Proven experience in developing mechanical systems from concept to production
* Proficient experience in machine safety, the Australian standards, and the evaluation and analysis of mechanical systems design for safety
* Hands on mechanical manufacturing and prototyping experience is highly desirable
The initial responsibilities will include:
* design for manufacture, assembly and testing of EcoHoist products
* documentation of designs, design rationale, manufacture, assembly and maintenance processes
* liaising with various manufacturers and suppliers as required
* assistance with grant reports and grant applications
Subsequent responsibilities will be shaped by the interests, skills and capabilities of the successful applicant, as well as the requirements of the organisation.

Compensation:
* $80k p.a. cash
* +12% superannuation ($9.6k)
