State Schools' Relief is looking for a Non-Executive Director to join its Board.
Board Meetings
The Board meets every two months online or face to face. The meetings are typically held between 6.00pm and 8.00pm on a Monday evening.
Term of Appointment
The period of initial appointment is for three years commencing April 2026.
The Role
Board members play an important role in guiding the strategic direction and governance of the organisation. Directors are expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to improving outcomes for disadvantaged students in Victorian government schools and to contribute thoughtfully and collaboratively to Board discussions while maintaining independent judgement.
We are interested in candidates who are currently employed in a Victorian Government school and bring practical school-based operational experience as Business Managers, with expertise in finance, accounting and/or Human Resources.

State Schools' Relief is a non-for-profit organisation that improves the lives of tens of thousands of disadvantaged Victorian students and their families each year.
With the ongoing support of the Victorian Government, we work side by side with all Victorian primary, secondary, specialist and language schools to ensure that any students facing hardship have the necessary items they require for school.
Our practical service and programs help ensure that students in Victorian government schools can attend school with confidence, which in turn enhances their educational opportunities and connection to their school community.
Many Victorian families continue to face challenges such as poverty, illness and family hardship, and demand for our services has grown significantly over the past five years. In response, the Board has developed a strategy for sustainable growth and asocial enterprise.
Selection Criteria
* Significant and successful experience as a Business Manager in a Victorian Government school
* Financial literacy and an understanding of organisational financial oversight
* Experience in strategic planning and governance
* Knowledge of risk management and regulatory compliance
* Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively while maintaining independence
* Knowledge of the Victorian education system, government processes and school communities
