Our client is a market leading, international manufacturer operating within the industrial vehicle sector. With a long-established presence in Australia and strong backing from a global parent, the organisation designs, manufactures and supports highly engineered equipment that plays a critical role in waste, public infrastructure, safety and environmental sectors. The business is experiencing sustained growth driven by acquisition, product innovation and an expanding aftermarket strategy.
Reporting to the Managing Director and operating as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the General Manager Engineering will provide strategic, technical and operational leadership across engineering design, product management and manufacturing support functions.
The role has end-to-end accountability for:
* The full product portfolio
* Overseeing the full lifecycle from concept and design through to manufacture, in-service support and end of life
* Strong focus will be placed on product strategy, standardisation, innovation, safety by design and continuous improvement
* Alignment with commercial outcomes, market and customer needs and regulatory requirements
The role will work closely with operations, sales, aftersales and global engineering stakeholders to support manufacturing performance, introduce new products and technologies and resolve complex technical challenges. As the senior technical authority, the General Manager Engineering will engage with key customers, OEM partners, suppliers and regulators, contributing to major tenders and strategic initiatives while building internal engineering capability and succession depth.
The ideal candidate will be a senior engineering leader with extensive experience in manufacturing or heavy industrial environments, ideally involving complex mechanical, electrical and digital systems. You will bring a strong track record in product development, lifecycle management, modularisation across the product range and a strong connectivity and digital technology bias connecting electro-mechanical systems with intelligent systems, digital outputs and data. You will lead multidisciplinary teams and combine the ability to operate commercially and strategically at executive level. Tertiary qualifications in engineering are essential with strong exposure to mechatronics, and system connectivity, along with a leadership style that balances rigour, collaboration and accountability.
