Following an internal promotion, HOTA is seeking a Technical Operations Manager to join our team and contribute to the delivery of industry-leading technical services across our multi-venue precinct.
About the Role:
Reporting to the Director Technical and Production, the Technical Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the delivery of industry-standard technical services across HOTA's multi-venue precinct.
In this role, you will work closely with colleagues in the Programming and Presenter Services Department and act as a key point of contact for technical requirements from pre-planning through to delivery. You will draw on your experience in the arts and events sector, bringing motivation to support creative endeavours and a respectful, solutions-focused approach to build strong client relationships with a broad cross-section of HOTA's internal and external stakeholders.
At its core, the role ensures effective resource management within the Technical Operations team, requiring strong oversight of key processes including rostering, approvals, asset management, and maintenance planning. You will also foster a culture that prioritises safety and well-being across the team.
Responsibilities:
* Supervise and support the Technical Operations team, with accountability for compliance, operational standards, and administrative processes.
* Oversee rostering, scheduling, and training to ensure efficiency, compliance, and professional standards.
* Collaborate with Technical Heads (Audio, Lighting, Staging) to support team development, mentoring, and training programs.
* Manage and improve asset and maintenance systems to ensure safe, functional and industry-standard infrastructure.
* Collaborate with Heads of Department to forecast budgets, support capital works, and oversee operational projects.
* Represent Technical Operations across the organisation, building strong internal and external stakeholder relationships.
* Ensure operations meet WH&S requirements and maintain up-to-date risk assessments and safety practices.
* Contribute as an active member of the management team, driving process improvements and supporting organisational goals.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Extensive experience in a Technical or Production Manager role.
* Strong skills in CAD software (AutoCAD or Vectorworks).
* Relevant licences, such as rigging, forklift, and EWP.
* Experience with event planning systems (ideally Artifax).
* Up-to-date safety certifications, including First Aid, Fire Evacuation, and Mental Health First Aid.
