The Role
This leadership role oversees the full feed production cycle – from crop planning, irrigation, and harvesting to feed mixing and inventory control. Reporting to senior management and working closely with nutritionists and the herd team, you'll ensure reliable, high-quality feed supply for a high-performance dairy operation.
Key responsibilities include:
* Plan and manage forage crops (maize, lucerne, rye, cereals) across irrigated and dryland blocks
* Operate and maintain irrigation systems (centre pivots)
* Oversee feed mixing operations, inventory reconciliation, and contractor coordination
* Supervise machinery use, maintenance, and safety for all cropping and feed-related equipment
* Supervise 2 staff and support training and roster planning
About YouYou are an experienced and practically skilled with producing forage crops, confident with irrigation systems, machinery, and staff oversight. You have excellent communication and numeracy skills, with a keen eye for quality and cost-effective feed production.
Essential:
* Extensive experience in cropping, forage production & pasture management
* Strong irrigation management (especially centre pivots)
* Feed mixing experience & inventory control knowledge
* Competence in machinery (tractors, telehandlers, augers, wagons)
* Sound numeracy & basic digital skills (Excel, feed tracking)
* Team leadership and practical, hands-on work ethic
Desirable:
* Dairy experience
* Understanding of water budgeting or allocation reporting
* Ability to liaise with nutritionists and suppliers
* Potential to step into a broader Farm Manager role
