As an SMP Estimator, you will support a diverse client base including miners, Tier 1 contractors, and public-sector infrastructure clients, providing accurate, well-documented, and defensible cost estimates across structural, mechanical, and piping scopes.
You will work closely with senior cost managers and directly with clients, contributing to feasibility studies, cost planning, and independent estimate reviews across a range of project stages.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare first-principles SMP estimates across feasibility, concept, and detailed design stages
* Complete detailed material take-offs and bills of quantities
* Review drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation for cost implications
* Develop labour norms, productivity-based pricing, and construction methodologies
* Identify scope gaps, assumptions, exclusions, and cost risks
* Support escalation, contingency, and risk allowance development
* Benchmark costs against historical data and current market conditions
* Produce clear, auditable cost documentation suitable for client and governance review
* Liaise with internal teams, engineers, contractors, and clients
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
* A degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline (preferred)
* Demonstrated experience in SMP estimating (structural, mechanical, piping)
* In-depth understanding of construction methods, materials, and pricing
* Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office (essential)
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to organise, plan, and manage multiple workstreams
* High attention to detail and strong analytical skills
* Ability to work collaboratively and build positive working relationships
Experience across mining, infrastructure, or major capital projects will be highly regarded.
