Forensic Officer Level 3 (FO-3) - Fixed term position available to 30.06.2028

About the role:

The function of the Forensic Integrated Sampling Unit is:

* To participate in the recovery of forensic material from exhibits in a multidisciplinary evidence recovery environment.
* The submission of material found on exhibits to the relevant forensic disciplines for analysis.
* As part of the Forensic Integrated Sampling Unit, the role of this position is to help achieve the functions of the unit in a timely manner.

As the successful applicant, some of your duties will include:

* Examine exhibits for both fingerprint and biological evidence.
* Undertake technical and administrative reviews of casework.
* Be aware of casework acceptance and management criteria.
* Assist in the supervision, mentoring and training of staff in line with professional development programs.
* Respond to customer enquiries, maintain records and compile statistical reports
* Assist in the development of policy and the identification, development, and implementation of new or improved procedures and protocols.
* Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of evidence recovery techniques, methods and procedures.
* Maintain equipment, instruments, laboratory space and document performance with respect to quality control criteria
* Participate in activities required to maintain accreditation and meet obligations, as required.
* Processing and management of ten print fingerprint records on the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS).
* Classify, search, compare and file fingerprint sets and latent fingerprints.
* Assist in relevant R&D projects that help improve and expand multidisciplinary evidence recovery methodologies.
* Prepare and present evidence for judicial purposes, as required.
* Attend and provide assistance at crime scenes in a multi-skilled environment, as required.
* Maintain appropriate knowledge of Victoria Police and Department policies, procedures and legislation.

Skills & Experience

As the successful applicant, you will have:

* Scientific/technical achievement, ability to interpret examinations and to successfully present technical and discipline related knowledge and advice to scientific/technical and non-scientific personnel at all levels, particularly in a Court context.
* Proven commitment to quality in casework and/or research or the ability to provide it.
* Well-developed specialist subject knowledge with an emphasis on forensic science.
* Proven ability to work autonomously and/or within a team environment.
* Ability to conduct scene examinations where little or no supervisory advice is available.
* Demonstrated Conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills.
* An understanding of the customer service requirements of the position and a demonstrated record of strong commitment and achievement in meeting customer needs.

Requirements and relevant information:

* Position is located at 31 Forensic Drive Macleod, Victoria
* Fixed Term FO-3 level role available to 30.06.2028
* A relevant tertiary qualification is required.
* Provide a DNA sample (buccal swab) for use in laboratory quality control procedures (elimination purposes only)
* Undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
* Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
* The position may require the incumbent to work outside the ordinary hours e.g. (Shift work/Overtime/On call).
