About Gunbalanya:

Located in the heart of Arnhem Land, Gunbalanya is a vibrant Aboriginal community situated 300km east of Darwin and 60km northeast of Jabiru, across the scenic East Alligator River. The town is home to a strong and connected community with a range of essential services and facilities, including:

•A school (pre-school to Year 12)

•Supermarket, service station, and convenience store

•Police station, crèche facilities, and aged care services

•Sports and social club, butcher, and community arts centre

•A communal swimming pool and sports oval, fostering an active and social lifestyle

Gunbalanya offers a unique opportunity to work in a culturally rich environment, surrounded by breathtaking landscapes and a strong sense of community.

Access to Gunbalanya:

•Year-round via air charter from Jabiru Airport.

•Dry season (May - Nov): Road access.

•Wet season (Dec - Apr): The river crossing at Cahill’s Crossing, East Alligator River, is usually impassable.

About the Role:

This role offers an opportunity to lead the Red Lily Clinical Services team based in Gunbalanya, delivering high-quality, culturally safe primary healthcare to the local community. Drawing on your extensive nursing experience, skills, and expertise in Aboriginal health, you will oversee the day-to-day management of a Remote Health Centre.

Success in this role requires a deep understanding of the key health challenges affecting Aboriginal communities, a strong foundation in Primary Health Care principles, and knowledge of the legislation governing remote health practice. This is a chance to make a meaningful impact, working in partnership with the community to improve health outcomes.

* Base Salary up to $139,300 pa

In this role, you will:

1.Deliver comprehensive Primary Health Care (PHC) using a multidisciplinary approach and endorsed protocols.

2.Maintain accurate documentation and health records to ensure continuity of care.

3.Provide culturally appropriate health education, supporting community participation.

4.Support and promote Aboriginal Health Practitioners (AHPs) as primary healthcare providers.

5.Engage in ongoing education and professional development for self and team.

6.Contribute to Quality & Safety programs, including policy and protocol development.

7.Participate in performance management and professional development activities.

8.Assist with staff orientation to support teamwork and integration.

9.Support the development and review of the Organisational Plan.

10.Participate in a 24-hour on-call roster.

Our ideal candidate:

1.Is a registered nurse with AHPRA and holds relevant post-basic or post graduate qualifications.

2.Brings extensive experience and demonstrated skills in remote area nursing, with an understanding of the roles within a multidisciplinary primary health care team in Australian indigenous communities.

3.Effectively interacts with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, demonstrating a strong grasp of Aboriginal health issues, cultural safety, and health determinants.

4.Possesses knowledge and experience in implementing primary health care programs and navigating relevant legislation governing remote work practices.

5.Demonstrates a commitment to quality improvement, workplace health and safety, research, education, and professional development.

6.Has highly developed interpersonal, problem-solving, communication, and IT skills, and is willing to utilize health IT systems.

7.Holds (or is eligible for) an NT manual driver's license, police clearance, Ochre Card, and Land Council work permit.

8.Is ready to travel to remote communities by air and 4WD, reside in a remote setting, and participate in a 24-hour on-call roster.
