About EatClub

At EatClub, we believe restaurants and bars are the beating heart of every city's culture. Whether it's discovering a hidden gem, grabbing a late‐night takeaway, or meeting friends for a drink, our mission is simple: help the hospitality industry thrive through smart, powerful tech.

Our platform helps over 2 million customers discover top restaurants and access real‐time deals that save them up to 50% off the bill. We empower more than 4,000 venues to fill empty tables, increase foot traffic, and maximise revenue. Recently ranked #11 on the 2025 Deloitte Tech Fast 50! Now is an exciting time to join our team. Initially co‐founded by Marco Pierre White and leaders in the food tech scene, we're now a 150+ person scale‐up that's growing fast and making waves in the industry.

Why You'll Love Working With Us
* Inherit a squad that is already performing well, and shape how it performs and grows
* Your technical decisions will influence architecture, standards, and delivery velocity
* You'll work in an environment where ownership matters more than title
* Your leadership will directly impact how engineers grow
* Lead a squad responsible for our mission‐critical mobile platform, or drive the development of the internal systems that keep our operations running at scale.
A Day-in-a-Life of Web Frontend Tech Lead

This is a hands‐on leadership role. You will have your hands in the code. You're not only managing tickets. You sit at the intersection of frontend architecture, delivery execution, and engineering growth.

Some mornings start in the code, building a new component, reviewing a complex PR, spotting a performance issue before it impacts users, or refactoring a component that doesn't meet your quality bar. You care deeply about how things are built, not just that they ship.

Other parts of your week are about shaping delivery. You're partnering with Product and Design to break down initiatives into realistic increments. You're thinking about frontend architecture, sequencing, technical trade‐offs, dependencies, and risk. You understand agile isn't ceremonies, it's predictable execution. You create clarity where there is ambiguity.

You collaborate with Backend Engineers to ensure APIs support smooth, performant UI experiences. When production issues surface, you approach them calmly and methodically, diagnosing root causes, protecting user experience, and reinforcing standards.

You're also the person engineers turn to when they're stuck, technically or professionally. You mentor without micromanaging. You challenge assumptions. You raise the quality bar and lead by example. You help others understand the "why" behind architectural decisions.

On Any Given Week, You Will Be Balancing
* Technical authority – Setting coding standards by example through high‐quality React/TypeScript code, making architectural decisions, improving performance, and evolving reusable component patterns.
* Delivery leadership – Structuring work into realistic increments, aligning closely with Product, identifying risks early, and ensuring the squad delivers what it commits to.
* People growth – Reviewing code thoughtfully, giving direct feedback, mentoring engineers, and building a stronger frontend team than you inherited.

The pace is fast. There are production issues to handle, architectural decisions to make, and delivery deadlines to respect. You won't have someone above you solving technical ambiguity. You'll be expected to create clarity.

This role suits someone who enjoys owning outcomes, not just contributing to them.

Type of Projects You'll Be Working On at EatClub
* Leading the build of new experiences that directly impact user conversion and engagement
* Improving frontend performance across high‐traffic pages (load speed, rendering optimisation, responsiveness)
* Refactoring legacy components into scalable, reusable design‐system‐aligned modules
* Implementing new product experiments and A/B‐tested features in collaboration with Product
* Improving test coverage and reliability of critical user flows
* Partnering with backend engineers to evolve API integrations (REST / GraphQL) as product complexity grows
* This role owns real product surface area, not isolated UI fragments.
You Have
* Strong hands‐on experience building production‐grade applications in React and TypeScript
* Experience shipping features end‐to‐end in a product environment
* Deep understanding of HTML, CSS, responsive design, and cross‐browser behaviour
* Experience optimising frontend performance and debugging production issues
* Experience consuming REST or GraphQL APIs
It Would Be Extra Awesome If You Also Had
* Experience with Next.js or similar React frameworks
* Experience contributing to or building a design system
* CI/CD or deployment pipeline exposure
* Full‐stack experience and comfort collaborating closely with backend engineers
* An interest in hospitality, restaurants, or consumer‐facing products
You Are
* Technically strong and comfortable owning decisions
* Proactive, you don't wait to be told how to do something
* Thoughtful about trade‐offs between speed, quality, and maintainability
* Comfortable asking clarifying questions when requirements are ambiguous
* Calm and methodical when debugging production issues
* Direct and clear in how you communicate with both technical and non‐technical people
If You Do a Good Job

Your squad is high‐performing, and owns its outcomes. Our frontend experience becomes faster, cleaner, and more intuitive. Product experiments ship quickly and safely. Backend and frontend collaboration becomes smoother and more predictable and users experience fewer bugs and faster interactions. Leadership trusts your technical judgement, and your ability to deliver and your impact is visible across the organisation and externally.

Maybe This Role Is Not for You If
* You prefer pure individual contributor work
* You prefer highly structured environments with tightly defined requirements
* You struggle to provide direct feedback
* You need constant guidance to make decisions and move work forward
* You're uncomfortable owning features beyond implementation
* You prefer focusing purely on UI styling without thinking about performance or architecture

One last note: even if you feel that you don't meet all the criteria above, we encourage you to apply. Past work experience is not the only indicator of future success, and we are on the look out for hungry talent who wants to grow with us. So if you want to be a part of something remarkable, then we're excited to hear from you.
