Working arrangements: Hybrid working arrangements (i.e. a combination of onsite attendance in the office and remote working) will be considered at the discretion of the Hiring Manager.

Length of contract: 12 Months

Contract extensions: 2x 12 months

Security clearance: Must be able to obtain Baseline

Rates: $100 - $130 per hour (inc. super)

The Chief Information Officer Division (CIO Division) is an exciting, diverse, and dynamic division that drives the digital agenda for the department. Leading the delivery of the department's digital offerings and transformation, the CIO Division partners with business areas and stakeholders to:

* Realise the digital policy objectives of the department,
* Define the department's digital landscape,
* Co-design digital experiences making it simpler to innovate, collaborate and communicate, and
* Drive the innovation and transformation of IT services.

The ICT Operations Branch is one of three branches within the Chief Information Officer Division (CIOD) and is responsible for the management and deployment of all ICT services to support the running of the organisation. The branch is comprised of teams that support:

* ICT networks and ICT infrastructure
* Cloud platforms and services
* On premises and Hybrid Cloud-based ICT enabling platforms and services
* End user platforms and services
* End users – ICT Support, Asset Management, Executive Support
* ICT-enabled enterprise projects.

The ICT Operations branch is a fast paced and exciting part of the CIO portfolio, and the End User Services team is an important function that provides key critical services to staff and maintains many of the underpinning technologies that allow the department to operate.

The End User Services section in the ICT Operations Branch is dedicated to the delivery of high-quality, user-centred digital services that provide stability, security and reliability for the department's staff members and stakeholders.

The End User Services section provides critical management, maintenance and innovation of the department's end-user digital technologies, including the standard operating environment (SOE), corporate device management, desktop application packaging (including the Microsoft 365 Apps), collaboration and communication tools, and remote access services.

As the Senior Windows Desktop Engineer you will contribute your skills and expertise in a multi-disciplinary team focused on managing and enhancing quality end user enabling technologies, including Microsoft Windows standard operating environments (SOE), mobile and desktop device management, and enterprise collaboration and communication tools.

You will work closely with team members and team leads to organise and prioritise work activities to achieve agreed objectives, while maintaining and developing key business relationships. You must be a good communicator, team player and possess qualities in line with the expectations for an APS6 in the Australian Public Service Commission's Integrated Leadership System (ILS).

Your key responsibilities may include:

1. Design, development, maintenance and (Level 3) support for:
2. the Standard Operating Environment (SOE), including desktop productivity software and corporate device configurations (desktop and iOS mobile)
3. the enterprise messaging and collaboration environment
4. enterprise remote access solutions (virtual desktop and VPN).
5. Packaging and deployment of applications.
6. Management of automated patching processes.
7. Providing expert technical advice across supported platforms and services, including providing input and representing the section in ICT governance and management forums (ICT architectural forums and processes and IT Service Management forums and processes).
8. Provide Level 3 support for complex technical issues escalated from service desk and Level 2 teams.
9. Collaborate with infrastructure, security, and application teams to ensure seamless integration and policy enforcement.
10. Develop and maintain technical documentation, SOPs, and knowledge base articles.
11. Participate in project planning and execution for upgrades, migrations, and new service rollouts.
12. Monitor system performance and implement proactive measures to ensure reliability and scalability.
* Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

These responsibilities would apply across a range of key technologies, such as:

13. Microsoft Windows (and related environment management, monitoring and automation tools)
14. Microsoft Exchange (Server and Online) and Microsoft Teams
15. Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise
16. Microsoft Intune (device management and configuration) and Group Policy
* Automation products and scripting with Microsoft PowerShell.

Note. End User Services is particularly keen to hear from candidates with strong skills in Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft Intune, as well as candidates with in-depth experience in automation in an enterprise ICT context.

* Ability to work under broad supervision with a high-degree of independence, and also to work collaboratively within a geographically-disperse team.

Essential Criteria

1. Experience/knowledge of Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise (M365 Pro Plus) including servicing, update channels, and M365 licensing
2. Expert knowledge of Windows 11, Intune and Group Policy configuration (including Advanced Group Policy Management)
3. Experience with Mobile Device Management (MDM) / Mobile Access Management (MAM) through Intune.
4. MECM (SCCM) and Intune skills including SOE creation/maintenance, application packaging and patching
5. Strong experience in writing technical documentation including SOPs and design documentation.

Desirable Criteria

1. Experience with Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (CVAD)
2. Experience with Australian Government IT Cyber Security processes including ISM, Essential 8 and ACSC hardening guides
