About The Opportunity
Bowral Hospital is offering an exciting quinquennial appointment for a Visiting Medical Officer, inviting an experienced emergency physician to play a key role in shaping high‑quality care for the Southern Highlands community.
In this dynamic position, you'll lead the delivery of timely, evidence‑based emergency care, supported by clear treatment plans, strong clinical documentation, and active involvement in departmental activities. You'll contribute your expertise through the on‑call roster, consultant support to colleagues, and engagement in both inpatient and ambulatory care.
You'll be a driving force in clinical governance, championing safe practice through effective handover, quality improvement initiatives, peer review, and commitment to accreditation and national safety standards.
Your passion for education will help develop the next generation of clinicians as you teach, mentor, and supervise junior medical staff, while participating in training aligned with HETI, SWSLHD, and NSW Health frameworks.
The role also includes contributing to departmental leadership, participating in performance development, and upholding NSW Health policies and the Code of Conduct.

What You'll Be Doing
Provide clinical management and treatment of patients in a SWSLHD facility under your care. This care will be provided within the clinical privileges granted by the CE on the advice of the SWSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee.

Bowral & District Hospital, located in the picturesque Southern Highlands of NSW, offers a unique blend of rural charm and cosmopolitan amenities. As part of the South Western Sydney Local Health District, it has strong connections to tertiary facilities at Campbelltown and Liverpool.
The hospital originally opened in 1889 and has undergone significant redevelopment, with the first stage completed in December 2020. This $123 million redevelopment includes a new Clinical Services Building with a modern emergency department, operating theatres, and inpatient wards. The ongoing second stage will further enhance outpatient services and include a new Aboriginal Dreaming Garden.

* Current medical practitioner, registered, or eligible for registration, with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellow of the RACP and/or other specialist recognition as provided under the Health Insurance Act 1973.
* Demonstrated current clinical practice of a high standard and ability to adapt clinical practice in accordance with contemporary evidence based best practice.
* Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
* Demonstrated participation in teaching and training at undergraduate and/or post graduate level, including supervision of junior medical staff.
* Demonstrated commitment to continuing self-education and development, including evidence of participation in continuing medical education/ continuing professional development.
* Demonstrated ability to comply with the service objectives of a public health organisation, including the provision of services to the local community, effective utilisation of resources, and preparedness to participate in the provision of health services at an LHD level.
* Preparedness to participate in a hospital, service or LHD on-call roster.
* Evidence of ability to work cooperatively with other staff and practitioners and in a multidisciplinary health care team.
