An opportunity exists for an experienced health administrator to become the APS 5 Health Practice Manager of a health facility delivering services to Australian Defence Force (ADF) members at RAAF Base Richmond. This is a dynamic management role, working within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
The successful candidate will oversee the day-to‑day management of the facility and be directly responsible for managing a wide range of administrative and coordination activities to ensure the provision of high quality health care. Duties include managing workforce rosters, budget allocations, workplace health and safety requirements, and conducting governance and quality assurance activities. Additional key aspects include setting work priorities, allocating work, and managing workflows and performance. The role involves engaging with both internal and external stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes for ADF members. Effective communication skills are essential as is the ability to review and develop the quality of work undertaken by others and identify opportunities for on‑the‑job training within a work unit.

Joint Health Command (JHC) is responsible for the delivery of healthcare services to over 70,000 ADF personnel. Through reliable, resilient and best‑practice health services, JHC enables a healthy, ready, and supported Force from enlistment to transition. Health care services are delivered through eight Joint Health regions across Australia. The APS5 Health Practice Manager position is part of Joint Health Unit – Northern New South Wales and is based at Richmond Health Centre, RAAF Richmond. Each Joint Health Unit facility provides a range of services, including medical, nursing, dental, physiotherapy, mental health, rehabilitation, and in‑patient care. The workforce is an integrated, multidisciplinary team of Defence members, civilians, contractors and qualified health providers, and the team manages around one million patient health service interactions with Defence members each year. This position reports to the Health Centre Manager at Richmond Health Centre.
