The Research Fellow – Health Economist will play a key role in evaluating public health interventions targeting infectious diseases.
A major focus of this work will be on neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), affecting countries in Africa and the Pacific. The successful candidate will conduct cost-effectiveness and budget impact assessments alongside trials and programmatic implementation of mass drug administration regimens including moxidectin to control/eliminate several NTDs (e.g. onchocerciasis and lymphatic filariasis).
Evaluating different financing mechanisms for sustainable investment in NTDs is also a crucial aspect of this research. This research is predominantly supported through a new grant from the National Health and Medical Research Council.
The Research Fellow will work closely with members of the Health Economics and Health Systems Research Groups at the Kirby Institute as well as key partners in the countries where these groups are working.
* This includes working with economists, epidemiologists, mathematical modellers, and social scientists to assess the effectiveness of public health interventions.
* Developing cost-effectiveness models to inform policy decisions regarding NTD control and elimination efforts.
* Evaluating the feasibility of implementing mass drug administration regimens in various settings.
The successful applicant will have strong analytical skills, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team. Strong knowledge of health economics and epidemiology is essential, as well as experience with statistical analysis software and programming languages such as R or Python.
