Maintenance Engineer Position

Austal is a global shipbuilder and defense prime contractor operating in Australia, the USA, Philippines, and Vietnam.

The company delivers multiple naval shipbuilding and sustainment programs for the Royal Australian Navy, Australian Border Force, and the Department of Defence. Approximately 1,000 people are employed across facilities located in Western Australia, Queensland, and the Northern Territory.

A strategic agreement has been entered into with the Commonwealth of Australia, driving significant growth across the industry and workforce. Austal will deliver existing and future programs under a long-term partnership.

To support this growth, Austal is building a highly skilled team to engage with local industry and supply chains. This team will contribute to complex, large-scale projects reflecting Austal's proven capabilities and trusted performance.


About the Opportunity

This critical position ensures asset reliability and performance by reviewing and analyzing technical documentation, equipment functionality, and performance requirements to develop effective maintenance strategies.


Key Responsibilities

1. Identify relevant maintenance tasks and define their characteristics using analysis methods such as Failure Mode Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) and/or Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM).
2. Produce ILS deliverables including analysis reports, technical manuals, maintenance plans, and detailed maintenance work instructions.
3. Analyze the maintenance resource package by conducting resource evaluations and trade-offs to determine the optimal location, personnel, and resources required for each task.
4. Apply engineering judgement to refine tasks in ways that improve vessel availability and reduce life-cycle costs.
5. Develop executable planning documents to support maintenance delivery.
6. Document maintenance procedures in compliance with relevant safety standards, ensuring clarity and accuracy based on authorized technical data.
7. Perform assigned ILS analysis tasks including logistics support analysis, reliability analysis, spares analysis, maintenance requirements determination, and task analysis activities.
8. Assist in the determination and embodiment process of Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) across multiple projects.
9. Support the preparation and submission of Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) deliverables to the client, ensuring compliance with project requirements.
10. Conduct maintenance investigations to identify deficiencies in current practices and recommend improvements to enhance asset reliability and maintainability.
11. Prepare and submit comprehensive reports detailing investigation findings and recommendations.


Requirements

* Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical, Electrical, or equivalent qualification.
* 5+ years of relevant experience in maintenance engineering.
* Understanding of the importance and role of data in the logistics program.
* Well-developed oral and written communication skills.
