Social Work Department
Social work at the Women's Hospital aims to improve the health and well-being of women and babies. The department adopts a holistic view of women's health, considering social, physical, emotional and cultural wellbeing. Social workers support women throughout their maternity, neonatal, gynaecological and oncology journeys, providing advocacy, counselling, information and support.
About the Role
You will be an experienced Grade 2 Social Worker specialising in young maternity patients. You will work 40 hours per week on a fixed-term contract. With excellent supervision and support, you will provide holistic care to patients, including developing case plans, supporting adjustment to new diagnoses, undertaking risk assessments, discharge planning, liaising with other providers and managing a caseload.
Key Responsibilities
Provide evidence-based social work services: psychosocial assessment, crisis intervention, short-term counselling, bereavement care, advocacy, community liaison and referral, case management and discharge planning
Ensure prompt assessment of newly referred patients
Work closely with the multidisciplinary team involved in the care of women and their families
Provide supervision to Grade 1 Social Workers and Social Work students as required
About You
Appropriate tertiary qualifications in Social Work and eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
Demonstrated theoretical understanding and intersectional approach to clinical practice, including work with victim/survivor of family violence, sexual assault, complex trauma and the child protection system
Proven knowledge in psychosocial assessment, crisis intervention, short-term counselling, bereavement care, advocacy, community liaison, case management and discharge planning
Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and establish functional networks with health personnel and service providers
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Capacity to manage a demanding workload, prioritise tasks and seek guidance as appropriate
