About Worthy Cause:
Worthy Cause is a social enterprise that supports vulnerable with long-term and complex barriers to employment through our structured employment program. We offer them the core, interpersonal, financial and social skills they need to become employable and change their lives.
We operate this program through cafe and cookie manufacturing operations. Proceeds from and hours of employment within these operations is used to benefit our program participants.
Position Overview:
This position is suited to a Cook with at least 2+ years of experience in hospitality. The role involves preparing and cooking food items, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, supporting broader cafe activities, pack up and set up each day and working closely with the Head Chef to ensure food safety, quality, and efficient kitchen operations.
The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and achieve their tasks in a timely manner and have the skills to cope with busy service periods.
Key Responsibilities:
* Assist with the preparation and cooking of basic food items under the supervision of the Head Chef
* Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in accordance with food safety and organisational standards
* Use kitchen equipment safely and appropriately as per training and operational procedures
* Assist with baking and packaging of cookies
* Follow recipes and portion guidelines to ensure consistency
* Complete all cleaning duties as per the daily, weekly and monthly schedules
* Contribute to stock rotation and food storage management
* Adhere to our quality management system and ensure all outputs meet required standards
* Assist with catering, grab-and-go meal preparation and special menu items as directed
Employment Program
* Ensure the kitchen remains a safe space, fosters learning and the betterment of our employment participants
* Provide informal training and advise to program participants from time to time
Skills & Qualifications
* Basic kitchen or food preparation experience preferred but not essential
* A genuine interest in social impact and inclusive work environments
* Ability to follow instructions, routines and food handling procedures
* Good communication skills and team approach
* Physical capacity to perform kitchen duties including standing, lifting and using kitchen equipment
* Current Food Handler’s Certificate or willingness to obtain one
