About The Role
The
Workforce Controller
coordinates and administers the Roster for all V/Line Passenger Locomotive Train Crews.
They ensure effective and cost-efficient rostering of qualified train crews across all Train Crew depots and contribute to the provision of the best possible equitable train services.
Workforce Controllers also complete day-of-operation and disruption management tasks on a daily basis.
Key Accountabilities include:
* Responsible and accountable for implementing the master roster for train crew, ensuring a balanced work allocation while adhering to all awards/EBA Agreements and business rules.
* Maintain the currency of roster data on the system, ensuring the rosters comply with rostering principles and rail safety.
* Ensure adequate roster coverage for planned and unplanned disruptions, ensuring all services have driver coverage.
* Allocate operational rosters in line with FAID requirements, and ensuring rosters cater for training, accreditation/reaccreditation, leave, occupations, special events and public holidays.
* Manage the IT system in relation to rostering, e.g. data entry of train crew times.
* Other tasks include arranging accommodation for drivers and organising and booking relevant doctors and pathology appointments for the train crew.
This role operates on a
24/7 rotating roster
and is
based out of Southern Cross Station
in Melbourne. Due to operations requirements and systems access, it requires on-site attendance and does NOT allow for remote or hybrid working arrangements.
About You
You have
experience in large-scale rostering environments
, ideally within the transport or rail industries.
You are a
strong communicator
, provide
superior customer service
and can
build rapport
quickly.
Our ideal candidate will possess the following:
* Previous rostering experience in an operational environment would be advantageous, as is experience managing disruptions and supporting daily operational duties.
* You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to work in a team environment.
* Prior experience applying EBA's is desirable, as is the ability to apply complex information accurately under pressure.
* Proficient in MS applications and able to produce high-quality business reports by applying analytical processes to mixed data sets to develop insights.
* Ability to work on a rotating 24/7 shift basis, including weekends and public holidays.

Salary for this role will be paid in accordance with the current V/Line Rail Operations and Administrative Employees Agreement 2023. This role is classified as a
SNR OFF 1.1 – 1.3 ($ $66.55 per hour).
You will commence at SNR OFF 1.1 and increase to the next level on each 12 month work anniversary until SNR OFF 1.3.
This is an
18-month fixed-term
, full-time opportunity with 5 weeks annual leave, 20% leave loading, superannuation, and free Myki for metro and regional travel.
