We are seeking a Volunteer Board Director to join the Board of a long standing, values driven not for profit disability service provider.

Greenacres is an award-winning registered NDIS provider, not-for-profit organisation, and registered charity that empowers people with disability to embrace their full potential every day. Greenacres has a proud history of more than 72 years and is committed to the human rights model of disability support and inclusion. We provide high quality and innovative support to individuals to meet their goals. Through the development of skills, achievement of qualifications, employment opportunities and a range of community life and leisure programs, we support 600 people weekly across the Illawarra and Shoalhaven.
The organisation is entering a period of significant transformation and change. The Board plays a critical leadership role in guiding the organisation through a highly changeable environment and ongoing NDIS regulatory and funding reform.
About the role
As a volunteer non-executive Board Director, you will contribute to the strategic direction, governance, and sustainability of the organisation, with a strong focus on stewardship, accountability and human rights-based practice ensuring alignment with Greenacres' values and goals. This is a role that offers a genuine opportunity to influence decision making and support the organisation through and exciting period of substantial change.
Time commitment
* Attendance at up to six Board meetings per year and Annual General Meeting
* Willingness to participate in at least one Board Committee
Board Committees include:
* Quality and Safeguards
* Audit and Risk
* People and Culture
When considering this opportunity, please be mindful that you will be required to volunteer your time to also attend up to three planning days per year.
What we are looking for
To be successful you will be a values-driven person who embraces the Greenacres values of Fairness, Inclusion, Respect, Excellence, and Safeguarding. We are particularly interested in candidates who bring one or more of the following:
* A strong understanding of the human rights model of disability and contemporary service provision
* Experience or strong knowledge of the NDIS and disability reform environment
* Understanding of disability advocacy, government policy and system change
* Experience in change management, reform or organisational transformation
* Ability to contribute constructively to Board discussions and governance responsibilities with strong communication and collaboration skills
Desirable attributes
Lived experience of disability, or a deep understanding of disability inclusion, is highly valued.
Previous Board experience is preferred but not essential.
We value diverse perspectives and are committed to supporting new Board members through induction and mentoring.
Mandatory requirements
Appointment to the Board is subject to meeting relevant compliance and governance requirements, including:
* Completion of the NDIS Worker Orientation
* A current NDIS Worker Screening Check
* A current Working with Children Check
* A National Police Check
* Consent to be appointed as a Director
* A Director Identification Number (DIN)
Support will be provided to successful applicants to complete these requirements where needed. There will also be an ongoing need to undertake professional development around corporate governance and key industry topics.
