What does being an ACT Policing Recruit mean?
As an ACT Policing Recruit, you'll enter a structured training pathway to become a sworn officer. Sworn officers are frontline ACT Policing members who wear a uniform, carry a firearm, and have legislated law enforcement powers. If successful, you will:
Complete 6 months of paid training at the College
Gain a nationally recognised qualification: POL50124 Diploma of Policing
Undertake practical training including defensive tactics and driver training
Graduate, be sworn in, and commence operational duties.
To be eligible, at the time of registering your details, you must:
Be an Australian citizen
Be at least 18 years of age
Have attained a minimum educational level of a Year 10 Certificate, or higher
Hold a valid Australian driver's licence (P Plates are accepted)
What's the selection process?
The AFP selection process is comprehensive and competitive. You'll be guided at each stage by our Recruitment team. Successful candidates are placed in a Merit Pool, from which you'll be offered a role on a particular recruit course. If successful, your start date will be determined by which recruit course you're assigned to. We run many courses throughout the year, and exactly which course you join is based on the location you apply for and accept at the time of your offer.
As a new recruit, you are paid to train, starting from $64,754. Following graduation, your salary will increase as per our Enterprise Agreement (EA). You can view further information on entry level recruit salaries and other benefits on our website.
