Legal & Governance Advisor

Public Sector People is proud to partner with Tablelands Regional Council (TRC) to recruit a motivated Legal & Governance Advisor. This is a key opportunity to play a central role in strengthening TRC's governance frameworks and providing legal expertise to support the organisation's strategic priorities.
The Role
Reporting to the General Counsel & Manager, Legal, Governance & Council Business, you will work across the organisation to ensure governance, quality and risk programs are robust, transparent, and effective. You'll provide in-house legal guidance, coordinate external legal advice, and contribute to best practice compliance and governance.
Key responsibilities include:
* Supporting the implementation and ongoing improvement of TRC's governance framework.
* Facilitating external legal advice and delivering in-house guidance on complex matters.
* Coordinating Council's lease and land tenure portfolio, including drafting, negotiating, and reviewing agreements.
* Providing advice, training, and guidance to staff on governance and legal issues.
* Managing complaints and investigations in line with Council's Complaints Management Policy.
* Preparing high-quality reports, policies, procedures, and briefings to support informed decision-making.
About You
We are seeking a dedicated professional who brings:
* Bachelor's degree in Law (or relevant discipline).
* Admission as an Australian Lawyer.
* Current practising certificate (or eligibility to obtain).
* Demonstrated experience in commercial/community leasing and complaints handling.
* Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
* Experience in local government (desirable but not essential).

* Permanent full-time role | 72.5 hours per fortnight.
* $95,552.46 per annum + 12% superannuation.
