The Canberra Hospital's Intensive Care Unit is a state-of-the-art facility featuring a 36-bed Adult ICU and a dedicated four-bed Paediatric Intensive Care Unit, designed to deliver exceptional care for critically ill patients. With around 2,700 admissions annually—including more than 80 paediatric cases—the ICU manages complex medical and surgical needs, from major trauma to cardiac, thoracic, and neurosurgical conditions. The new PICU provides short-term, high-level support for children, ensuring safe recovery or seamless transfer to tertiary centres within the Sydney Children's Health Network when required. Working alongside interdisciplinary teams, the Paediatric Clinical Development Nurse plays a pivotal role in advancing nursing expertise, fostering education, and supporting staff with passion, approachability, and outstanding communication skills to deliver the highest standard of paediatric critical care.
