About the Department
General Medicine is delivered at Casey, Dandenong and Clayton hospitals and together comprises one of the largest and busiest inpatient services at Monash Health, with approximately 22,000 separations/year. General Medicine at Monash Medical Centre, Clayton is supported by specialist surgical and medical inpatient teams and consults for those services who are based at any of the other sites (e.g. urology, maxillofacial). The catchment area is home to a large culturally and linguistically diverse population with complex acute and chronic disease presentations. The model of care is based on strong multidisciplinary collaboration with dedicated Allied Health, nursing and pharmacy staff. The unit is well resourced with a number of substantially employed and fractional senior medical staff, advanced and basic physician trainees and junior medical staff.
About the Role - Unit Director, General Medicine
General Medicine Physicians with more than 4 years’ experience are encouraged to express interest in this opportunity. Reporting to the Service Director, the Director General Medicine has accountability for the effective management and leadership of the portfolio and the provision of services in General Medicine, Monash Medical Centre Clayton, consistent with Monash Health’s Strategic and Clinical Service plans. The Director is responsible for leading the General Medicine unit to provide safe and timely evidence-based care while delivering on key performance indicators within budget and resources. and home-based services. The service has a key role in providing long-term specialist follow-up clinics and ensuring transition to adult-based services where required.

Hours: Full time (38 hours per week) plus on call
Employment: Fixed term full time
Period: Five years (renewable)
About You
To be successful within this role, you will be able to demonstrate strong leadership and change management skills to implement and support new models of care that ensure streamlined and effective access to services, service delivery and coordinated care. The incumbent is a leader in the Senior Medical Team who acts as a role model for the core values of the organisation and provides outstanding and effective leadership, coordination and management of the portfolio’s employees. The incumbent supports excellence in interdisciplinary clinical practice, facilitates clinical education and promotes and supports research to advance the portfolio and deliver excellence in patient-centred care. The incumbent will have:

What you need:
Medical Specialist/Consultant (Senior Medical staff):
13. Medical Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
14. Appropriate health professional tertiary qualifications.
15. Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians
16. Research qualifications and an outstanding research track record.
17. Working with Children’s Certificate.
18. Substantial relevant experience in General Medicine in a major teaching hospital.
19. Higher research degree (MD, PhD) and/or Postgraduate qualification in health service management desirable
The incumbent must complete the Credentialing and Scope of Practice process prior to appointment and commencement. This will be reviewed on a regular basis.
