At Cubic Defence Australia, we deliver world-class training and simulation capability in support of the Australian Defence Force. We are seeking a capable and motivated Field Maintenance Technician to join our Combat Training Centre – Live Instrumentation System (CTC-LIS) Field Services team.

About the Role
Reporting to the 2IC Field Services, the Field Maintenance Technician is responsible for supporting maintenance activities and ensuring the ongoing availability of CTC-LIS equipment.
You will play a key role in the preparation, deployment and sustainment of CTC-LIS Relay Stations, including the diagnosis and repair of telecommunications equipment (UHF, microwave and LTE systems), as well as basic servicing and maintenance of diesel‐powered generators.
This position requires significant time deployed away from Townsville to Australian Army and non‐Defence training areas. During Force‐on‐Force exercise phases, you will operate within a small team environment providing 24‐hour maintenance coverage in the field.
Key Responsibilities Technical & Field Operations
* Conduct inspections, maintenance and repair of CTC‐LIS instrumentation and telemetry equipment
* Diagnose and repair telecommunications systems (UHF, microwave, LTE)
* Conduct pre‐deployment readiness checks of telemetry and mechanical systems
* Maintain CTC‐LIS equipment during field deployments
* Service and perform minor repairs on diesel‐powered generators
* Provide technical advice and support during instrumentation function checks
Leadership & Team Support
* Be prepared to deputise for the 2IC Field Services during periods of absence
* Assume a leadership role within a small team during field deployments
* Identify, analyse and prioritise maintenance issues, communicating intent and outcomes clearly
Compliance & Governance
* Comply with Cubic's Quality Management System
* Adhere to Health, Safety and Environmental policies
* Maintain security in accordance with established procedures
* Follow all Human Resources and company policies
About You
You are a hands‐on technician with strong fault‐finding skills and the ability to operate confidently in both workshop and field environments. You are adaptable, resilient, and comfortable working in remote and demanding conditions.
Essential Experience & Skills
* Experience installing and maintaining communications systems
* Basic knowledge of electronics and electrical principles
* Strong troubleshooting and fault‐finding capability
* Ability to analyse maintenance issues and prioritise effectively
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Experience using IT systems and programs
Qualifications & Licences (or willingness to obtain)
* Cert III in Telecommunications, Electrotechnology or equivalent
* Heavy Truck Licence (or willingness to obtain)
* Vehicle Loading Crane High Risk Licence (or willingness to obtain)
* Work at Heights qualification (or willingness to obtain)
* Forklift Licence (or willingness to obtain)
Additional Requirements
* Successful National Police Check
* Ability to obtain and maintain an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) security clearance
* Flexibility to support business needs outside standard working hours when required.
This role involves significant time deployed in field environments across Australia. You must be comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions and supporting live training activities in remote locations.
