The Centre for Learning and Teaching
The Centre for Learning and Teaching (CLT) contributes to the leadership and implementation of strategic teaching and learning and change across the University through collaborative partnerships with Schools and Service Centres. CLT provisions professional learning for all teaching roles in the University to promote evidenced based and scholarly practice.
Additionally, CLT leads the implementation of learning technologies across the University, delivery of learning support programs for students, and active support of Schools to deliver best practice curriculum design and assessment.
About the Prospect
CLT is seeking a highly experienced academic practitioner with national standing in the field of teaching and learning and student success and a commitment to excellence and equity in higher education to lead the Academic Practice team.
The Manager, Academic Practice is responsible for the leadership and management of the Academic Practice team to design, develop, and facilitate evidence-informed academic development resources and programs for all learning and teaching staff at ECU. This includes bootcamps, workshops, and resources to support curriculum transformation at ECU as well as the fully micro-credentialled Graduate Certificate in Academic Practice and the Professional Certificate in Academic Practice (both accredited by Advance HE); role-based professional development courses; an ECU-wide learning and teaching conference; and programs that support the reward and recognition of ECU staff.
The Manager, Academic Practice is also responsible for leading the team to work collaboratively with all teams in the Centre for Learning and Teaching (and other areas, as needed) to provide scalable and tailored, School-based professional learning that develops foundational knowledge of curriculum and assessment design and teaching practice as well as other key strategic initiatives, related to learning and teaching, that support the work of the teams in CLT who work in portfolio-based approaches with the Schools. The Manager works in collaboration with learning and teaching leaders from schools and central services to lead learning and teaching transformation at scale.
As the Manager, Academic Practice, key responsibilities will include monitoring and benchmarking best practice in academic development related to teaching, learning, and student experience across learning modes, engaging externally to maintain and enhance ECU’s reputation for teaching quality, and building strategic networks and collaborative relationships while fostering a culture of capability building and mentoring. You will lead a cohesive, collegial, and innovative team, working collaboratively within the Centre for Learning and Teaching as well as across the broader University.
About you
A doctoral qualification in a relevant field and Senior or Principal Fellowship with Advance HE;
Comprehensive leadership capabilities, including experience in leading large diverse, collaborative teams;
Significant leadership experience in developing contemporary, high quality academic programs or academic development programs that meets the needs of various stakeholders;
Significant demonstrated experience in leading scalable professional learning that has demonstrable impacts;
Sound knowledge of higher education sector policy, trends, innovations and strategies, particularly in relation to learning, teaching, and the associated student experience;
National standing in the field of learning and teaching and student success;
Commitment to excellence and equity in higher education consistent with the varied disciplines at Edith Cowan University; and
Successful experience in management of personnel, projects and budgets.
