Senior Legal Counsel (Construction/Energy)
Our client is a world-leading energy company on a mission to solve the challenges of a sustainable future. With operations in over 20 countries, they design, develop, and operate cutting-edge renewable energy and smart infrastructure solutions that power communities, industries, and economies.
Recognised for their innovation, collaborative partnerships, and technical excellence, they work with governments, investors, and industry leaders to deliver transformative projects that generate long-term value and accelerate the clean energy transition.
The Role
Our client is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join their growing legal team in Melbourne. This is an exceptional opportunity to work on some of Australia's most exciting renewable energy and battery storage projects, shaping the legal and commercial frameworks that underpin their success.
In this role, you will provide commercially astute legal advice across the full project lifecycle - from bid and procurement, through financing and delivery, to long-term operations. Partnering closely with commercial, technical, and project delivery teams, you will play a key role in structuring deals, managing risk, and ensuring compliance across complex, high-value initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
* Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a range of project agreements, including EPC, O&M, connection, and long-term supply contracts.
* Advising on project financing, risk allocation, and regulatory compliance within the energy sector.
* Supporting the development and delivery of large-scale renewable generation and battery storage projects from inception through to completion.
* Managing legal aspects of claims and disputes, with a focus on proactive resolution and commercial outcomes.
* Providing strategic input into major commercial decisions and contract strategies.
The Candidate
You will have a minimum of 5+ years' PQE gained at a highly regarded law firm, or in-house within the energy, infrastructure, or resources sectors. Strong front-end project experience is essential, with a track record of advising on complex, high-value transactions.
You will also demonstrate:
* Expertise in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating large-scale infrastructure or energy project contracts.
* Experience with renewable energy, battery storage, or other major energy infrastructure projects, ideally under EPC, O&M, or PPP delivery models.
* Strong commercial acumen, problem-solving skills, and the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
* The capability to work both autonomously and collaboratively in a fast-paced, growth-focused environment.
