If you enjoy hands‐on outdoor work, take pride in well‐presented parks and gardens, and want to help create welcoming public spaces for the community, this could be the role for you.
Our Parks and Gardens team plays a key role in maintaining and enhancing Council's open spaces – supporting community use, environmental outcomes and high‐quality city presentation. We're looking for someone who brings practical horticultural skills, a strong safety mindset and a positive, team‐focused approach.
About The Role
As a Team Member – Parks and Gardens, you'll deliver proactive and reactive horticultural maintenance across parks, gardens, streetscapes and other public areas. Your work will include planting and establishment, mulching, hedge maintenance, general landscape presentation, hand weeding and weed eradication. You'll monitor plant and turf health, identify pest, weed and disease issues, and carry out chemical and non‐chemical control methods in line with best practice and safety requirements.
You will also undertake irrigation maintenance, including minor repairs and seasonal scheduling recommendations, respond to identified hazards or asset issues, and ensure work sites are left clean, safe and well presented. This role involves operating horticultural plant tools and equipment, completing pre‐start checks and working in line with relevant procedures and standards. The role may rotate across City Operations teams to support peak workloads – making flexibility, teamwork and communication key to success.
About You
You're passionate about the presentation and care of parks and gardens, and understand the importance of safe, attractive public spaces for community enjoyment. You take pride in your work, follow procedures and enjoy contributing positively to a supportive team environment.
You bring practical horticultural skills, along with the ability to identify issues, manage risk and respond effectively to seasonal and environmental conditions. You're comfortable operating plant and equipment, sharing your knowledge with others, and are comfortable working outdoors in a range of environmental conditions.
You're Someone Who
